RBSL has circa 500 employees and is set to grow further to around 700. As Payroll Manager, you will be the organisation's lead expert on payroll and will manage the 3rd party payroll provider. You be the first point of contact for all queries and have overall responsibility for both the payroll strategy and day-to-day operations. You will deliver a high quality payroll service, and be responsible for applications, systems and processes, to ensure end user satisfaction.

The payroll service was insourced from our parent company in 2020 and has been operating on its own since the start of 2021. The model is a managed contract through Zellis and this role will be the standalone Payroll Manager to support that contract.

In addition, we are also in the process of insourcing the payroll for around 60 employees for our sister companies RDUK and RMMV.

These are exciting times to join a dynamic HR team in a growth organisation.

Responsibilities will include:

Manage an outsource payroll bureau and deliver excellent customer service at all times, the manager will be the point of contact for all payroll queries.
Identify and arrange training for the wider HR team.
Keep up to date and inform the wider team of any changes in legislation.
Own and maintain payroll processes and procedures.
Develop long term strategic relationship with internal and external customers/suppliers, partners and industry leaders
Ensure written documentation is created and maintained, to include user and system manuals, work instructions, licence agreements and all documentation relating to modifications and upgrades.
Checking time and attendance information for variable pay
Providing sickness reporting for the wider HR community
Processing of monthly payroll for approx. 600 staff
Responsibility for pension RTI returns and reports
Issue of copy payslips, copy invoices and any other payroll related documents where applicable.
Deal with general client/customer queries via telephone and email
Ability to undertake UK and international travel as required.The successful incumbent will be competent in the following areas:

Familiarity with payroll trends and good practice.
Experience of managing an outsource payroll bureau.
Excellent understanding of data protection and GDPR regulations
Knowledge of statistics and data collection/analysis techniques and principles;
Ability to run reports and check for variances in payroll
Liaison with finance teams for general ledger reporting
Experience of managing payroll inputs and outputs for benefit suppliers


Have a qualification in payroll management (CPP) or equivalent
Have proven experience managing the payroll cycle
Possess strong IT skills, particularly Excel
Have excellent attention to detail
Be able to communicate effectively at all levels
Customer focused and experienced at dealing with customers and other stakeholders nationally and internationally.
Ability to work under pressure and to respond quickly to changing circumstances and to tight timescales
