This is a fantastic opportunity for a Latin American woman to showcase her leadership and professional expertise.

The Latin American Women’s Aid is a dedicated specialist service led by and for Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) women, working together to end violence and enhance women and girls’ empowerment.

What will you be doing?

The Chair will hold the Board and Senior Management Team to account for LAWA’s mission and vision, providing inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that each trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity.

The Chair will also support the Director and ensure that the Board functions as a unit and works closely with the entire Executive of the charity to achieve agreed objectives.

Personal Qualities

  • Demonstrate a strong and visible passion and commitment to LAWA’s strategic objectives, mission and vision.
  • Exhibit strong inter-personal and relationship building abilities.
  • Demonstrate tact and diplomacy, with the ability to listen and engage effectively.
  • Strong networking capabilities that can be utilised for the benefit of the charity.
  • Ability to foster and promote a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to commit time to conduct the role well, including travel and attending meetings.

Experience

  • Experience of operating at a senior strategic leadership level within an organisation.
  • Experience in the led by and for Ending-VAWG sector in the UK or abroad
  • Experience of charity governance and working with or as part of a Board of Trustees.
  • Experience of external representation, delivering presentations and managing stakeholders.
  • Significant experience of chairing meetings.

Knowledge and skills

  • Broad knowledge and understanding of the BME (Black and minority ethnic) sector and current issues.
  • Strong leadership skills, ability to motivate and bring people together.
  • Good understanding of charity governance issues.

The Chair will play a key role in the strategic direction of LAWA, supporting the Board with her leadership skills and ensuring that the organisation continues providing its valuable services to Latin American and other Black and minoritised women in the UK.

Time commitment
