Assistant Manufacturing Engineer / Junior Mfg Technician is required for a global company in the Oldham / Ashton-under-Lyne, East Manchester area specialising in the manufacture of custom engineered products using advanced composite materials. Negotiable salary (dependent on experience and qualifications) plus excellent benefits, working 38 hours per week on a rotating 2 shift pattern: Mon - Fri 6am-2:10pm & 2-10:10pm). This is a fantastic opportunity, with security and long term career prospects.

The client may also consider candidates who have recently graduated in Manufacturing / Mechanical Engineering (with Advanced Composite Materials modules) coupled with experience of working within a busy production environment before, during / as part of a sandwich year or after graduating.

Job Objective: Reporting to the Senior Manufacturing Engineer, the main objective of this role is to work to provide the best quality Custom Engineered Products, Converted Items and Services to our customers, internal and external and to achieve continuous improvement in all aspects of their delivery.

The successful Assistant Manufacturing Engineer day to day duties will include:

Assisting with new custom product and converted item introduction and productionisation, including work instruction creation.
Assisting with the first article inspection process.
Investigating cost efficient manufacturing processes by product group by utilising people, process and equipment.
Assisting with engineering drawing and work instruction updates.
Identifying continuous process improvement ideas and drive implementation.
Assist with Root Cause and Corrective Action implementation
Ensure documented processes to deliver repeatable quality product are being adhered to on the shop floor
Assist with creation of training courses and delivery to personnel
Institute good housekeeping / 6S Principles
Deputise for Production Shift Supervisors as and when required
To work within business guidelines and procedures, notifying Manager of any safety hazards.

To be suitable for this Assistant Manufacturing Engineer you must have the following experience, skills and characteristics:

Recent experience within a busy Production environment.
Well organised, confident and self-motivated individual with experience in a similar role
Knowledge of CI techniques such as Root Cause and Corrective Action, Kanban, 5Ys, Six Sigma etc.
Able to read / interpret engineering & 2D / 3D CAD drawings.
A strong problem solver with the ability to use initiative and innovate.
A flexible and adaptable team member
Good standard of PC Literacy (MS Office) with excellent communicational skills - Oral, Reading & Writing.
Educated to GCSE level or higher

The ideal Assistant Manufacturing Engineer / Junior Mfg Technician will have the following experience, skills and characteristics:

Previous experience and/or knowledge of the Advanced Composites industry
Relevant work experience
Prior experience of helping to implement and establish of CI techniques such as RCCA, Kanban, 5Ys, 6s etc.
HNC or Higher qualification in Manufacturing, Engineering, Materials etc.
