Senior Financial Accountant

An exciting opportunity to join a the finance team of a new and rapidly growing organisation based in Leeds. This is a chance to be part of a new team which is still growing. There's an opportunity to work in a dynamic start-up environment to help shape the financial policies, processes and systems. You will work in cross-functional teams to support the objectives of the bank, including working with colleagues to implement the funding structure of the bank. This is a small, agile and professional organisation managing a portfolio which will reach £22 billion in five years' time. This is an exciting opportunity to join the bank and support the setup of the finance function. Initially the work will be focused on the immediate 'start-up' work needed to set up the bank. This will support the processes and controls to enable bank being able to take Accounting Officer responsibilities from its shareholder. You will play a key role in support the setup of the processes and systems needed to enable the bank to make investments and ultimately deliver all the financial reporting responsibilities including the annual report and accounts. To succeed, you will be a high performing finance professional with advanced excel skills and strong financial reporting knowledge and experience. You will be able to understand and interpret governance requirements and communicate and present information to suit the needs of the user. You will be a results-driven and ambitious team player who is able to work at a fast pace in a pressurised environment, has good attention to detail and the ability to build excellent working relationships at all levels. Specific responsibilities include: 1. Support the process of establishing the controls, processes and systems to enable the transfer of accounting officer responsibilities to the bank from its shareholder. 2. Support the 'start-up' work to help the bank build the financial capabilities needed to make investments and issue guarantees. 3. Develop the financial reporting models for the bank's financial products (i.e. loans, equity investments and financial guarantees) in line with relevant accounting standards and ensure the correct posting of the relevant journals to the ledger. 4. Produce the accounting papers for different financial reporting areas as required. 5. Contribute to the preparation of the Annual report and accounts, identifying, reporting and co-ordinating the resolution of any issues arising, including audit queries. 6. Provide advice on the financial implications of new financial products and support other finance processes such as in-year budget management and business planning. 7. Build effective relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels - for example, the shareholder HMT, the National Audit Office, the operational finance teams, the Audit and Risk committee. 8. Prepare tax returns, including VAT and Corporation Tax. 9. Liaise and support other teams within finance, such as Treasury, Financial Planning and Analysis, Counter-Fraud, as necessary. Required Qualifications: 1. A professional finance qualification - CCAB, CIMA or equivalent Required Behaviours, Experience and Technical Skills: 1. Experience of financial reporting, financial statements preparation and IFRS. 2. Ability to work independently at key times in the year to deliver deadlines and priorities. 3. Ability to analyse technical financial issues and to effectively communicate complex financial information to a wide range of stakeholders. Desirable Experience and Technical Skills: 4. Experience of complex technical accounting, IFRS 9 "Financial Instruments", IFRS 4 "Insurance Contract", and IFRS 10 "Consolidation Financial Statements". 5. Experience of financial services and banking sector. 6.
