We're looking for an exceptional candidate to join our independent Grants Panel with responsibility for scrutinising grant applications to ensure consistency of assessment, value for money and potential to achieve strategic objectives.
Football Foundation are the Premier League, The FA and Government’s charity delivering upon a shared vision to help communities improve their local football facilities through grants.
What will you be doing?
The key responsibilities of the Football Foundation's Grants Panel include:
- Ensuring that all funding applications have been properly assessed by Football Foundation staff in accordance with our governance framework, and that the required investment would achieve essential outcomes.
- Ensuring that approved guidelines and assessment criteria have been applied consistently and equitably.
- Providing objective-based recommendations to the Board of Trustees, as required.
What are we looking for?
Our aim is to ensure the Panel brings together a diverse, informed body of individuals who can use their specific backgrounds, skills, experiences, and perspectives to contribute to a healthy debate that leads to effective decision-making. We're looking for candidates with skills and experience across a range of areas such as strategic planning, financial management, business development, risk management and governance and regulation. However, it is also essential for candidates to have some knowledge or understanding of:
a. Assessing projects and identifying desired outcomes.
b. Grant provision and management.
It is desirable for candidates to be able to demonstrate that they:
a. Have the ability to understand and critique financial data for project bids.
b. Understand the potential impact of projects, both locally and nationally.
c. Understand how football can act as an agent for change.
d. Have knowledge of Government priorities and agency issues related to sport, education, and social inclusion.
Candidates will need to demonstrate sound business judgement, effective communication and interpersonal skills, and a willingness to work as part of a team to help the Football Foundation achieve its aims.

We are proud that, through the investment of our funding partners into grassroots football, we have seen incredibly positive effects on physical health, mental health, participation, and the overall economy, and we want to keep moving the goalposts. Being a member of our Grants Panel is an exciting opportunity to join us in making a contribution to grassroots football.
A commitment of around 12 days per year scheduled around Panel meetings. The Panel currently meet four times a year (January, April, July, and October), scheduled to tie in with the meetings of the Board of Trustees. Members are expected to be available for all four Panel meetings. Meetings are held either virtually via Microsoft Teams, or at the Foundation’s offices in central London. They usually run for half a day (excluding any travel time).
