Commissioning Managers Roles and Responsibilities
Candidates must have good experience of BMS/BEMS and managing teams of BMS Engineers.
The commissioning manager's role is to be the support and communication link between the site based teams and the office based design teams, and to ensure the commissioning processes are managed effectively and delivered on budget.
This will be achieved by the following processes.
Management of a team and the ability to review design drawings, specifications and technical submittals in order to produce a commission-ability reviews, together with client liaison
Prepare and manage a 4 week view commissioning planner for forecasting labour requirements, identify any shortfalls ahead of time and suggest solutions to the management team such as use of sub-contract labour, source permanent addition labour, give an update at the monthly management meetings.
Assess projects and contracts before commissioning commences and highlight any concerns to the management team with regards to costs to complete V project costings or time allocations at the monthly management meetings.
Management the ongoing project commissioning costs on a job by job basis and report project costs to complete against actual site progress at monthly management meetings.
Develop a commissioning plan for larger projects, this will involve finding the detail from site or attending meetings with the project engineers and being the lead on commissioning meetings as required. The plan needs to be communicated to the commissioning team onsite so priorities are fully understood.
Ensure the commissioning process is planned with the engineer's onsite to ensure we are tacking projects in an efficient and productive manner. Relay this information along with any issues to the project engineer and management team at the monthly management meetings. Follow up, and manage through commissioning issues arising and get them closed out to agreed deadlines.
Make site visits to ensure the commissioning engineers are tackling projects proactively as per the plan and drive a performance related culture through the department.
Issue the H&S manager with the rolling forth coming commissioning plan in a timely manner especially where imminent changes have occurred. Ensure any site H&S concerns are relayed in writing to him the project engineer and the management team.
Issue commissioning documentation, site addresses, site contacts and co-ordinate induction requirements and all H&S documentation is in place with the site teams prior to works commencing.
Co-ordinate any project changes as advised by the project engineer to the site teams.
On larger projects attend and lead the project completion and handover process to the client with the commissioning team / lead engineer. Fully document and record what has been demonstrated and produce a report that can be issued.
Ensure all completed commissioning documentation and software backups are received back from commissioning engineers. These need to be reviewed to ensure they are complete and accurate, where information is missing this needs to be chased up before they are stored under the project folder and given to CAD for any updates with these being handed back to the project engineer.
Assess the company's product based requirements for training and develop individual training plans with the engineers to ensure they meet the businesses requirements as well as achieving personal goals.
Where minor changes or equipment is needed onsite by the commissioning teams ensure this is either actioned directly by yourself or co-ordinated with the project engineer for larger requirements.
Where specialist access equipment is required ensure this is hired and off hired in a timely manner to ensure the planned commissioning process can be achieved and the commissioning team has all relevant training certificates.
Manage a log of tools and any company issued equipment engineers have received, ensure any test / calibration certificates are valid.
Actively review the commissioning processes for any areas that can be improved, identify any new technology which could be deployed.
