Milberg London was established in 2020 as an independent law firm focused exclusively on claimant litigation. Our partners have all previously worked at Jones Day, Freshfields, Pinsent Masons, Dechert, Clyde & Co, Paul Hastings and Mishcon de Reya over the last 15 years before establishing their own firm. We specialise in large-scale consumer group actions against corporate defendants. We are looking to expand our Competition Litigation practice and are seeking to recruit an exceptionally bright competition associate to join our London team and work with recently recruited partner, Natasha Pearman.

The Competition Litigation practice is focusing on collective actions regarding abuse of dominance, cartel damages, and other antitrust litigation in the UK courts and Competition Appeal Tribunal and coordinating competition litigation on a worldwide basis.

Milberg is acting on the highest profile, and most cutting edge, collective action matters in the UK and this is an exciting opportunity to join a fun and entrepreneurial team. We are a young, ambitious, dynamic team and there is scope for the right person to grow with the business at their own pace and operate outside the confines of a traditionally structured law firm team.

The successful candidate will need to be naturally self-motivated, enthusiastic and possess a positive attitude towards the challenges and opportunities of working in a start-up environment. We are keen to find a candidate who inspires trust and confidence, is pro-active, resilient and has all the qualities to become an integral member of our team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with project managing significant cases and building and maintaining key relationships with various stakeholders/third parties including litigation funders, claimant representatives, class members, claims administration and PR agencies
  • Assist with providing strategic advice on competition litigation and developing litigation skills, both procedural and substantive
  • Prepare bundles for court proceedings
  • Draft letters/emails to client/other side
  • Work closely with leading barristers, economists and expert witnesses
  • Draft and review witness statements, expert reports and pleadings
  • Assist with the running of document reviews and disclosure exercises

The ideal candidate will:
  • Likely have between 0-3 years PQE
  • Have a law degree, GDL diploma or equivalent, a strong academic history (at least 2:1 or equivalent from a reputable university) and training from a top 100 firm
  • Have a solid background and experience/training in UK and EU competition law and a desire to work on competition litigation (direct competition litigation experience is desirable but not essential)
  • Have excellent communication and drafting skills - the ability to communicate succinctly is a must
  • Have an understanding of economics and data analysis
  • Have entrepreneurial flair, strong commercial acumen, and an ability to provide clients and the team with focused strategic advice
  • Be interested in technology, innovation and efficient service delivery
  • Be passionate about the importance of competition litigation as a means to effective justice for consumers
