IT Linux Manager - Wallingford - £45,000 - £52,000

Role: IT Linux Manager

Field: IT/IT Support/Linux Engineer

Reporting to: Head of IT

Working hours: 37.5 hours per week - 3 days office based and 2 days home working

Locations available: Wallingford, Lancaster or Edinburgh

Salary: £45,000 - £52,000

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a IT Linux Manager to join a leading R&D establishment. You will be leading a team of 3 and working closely with Researchers and Scientists to develop robust Linux systems to support critical work which will impact society as a whole in a positive way.

The Role:

* Lead the delivery of a stable science computing infrastructure to ensure that it is efficient, effective and can adapt to changing circumstances

* Work closely with Researchers and Scientists to understand the organisations strategic vision and direction and in turn provide long term support to the businesses goals and objectives

* Provide leadership to the science computing team by managing, mentoring and motivating the team around you

* Overall responsibility of deployment, rolls outs, upgrades, modifications , design and implementation of systems that support the future development of the science computing systems

* Project manage complex IT Linux projects and lead on the delivery of these projects in terms of ensuring they are; stable, recoverable and future proof

* Implement service standards as well as develop good systems and processes to be in line with best industry practices

* Oversee the Build, configuration, administration and support of science computing technologies such as: HPC Linux servers, desktops and laptops, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, and virtual and cloud computing

* Provide support, including procedural documentation and relevant reports

Skills Required:

* Strong hands-on skills with a variety of proprietary and open source Linux UNIX varieties

* Mid-level experience in a technical support role which includes oversight of a Linux and/or HPC environment

* Supervising and developing an effective team in a complex environment

* Ability to lead and manage change in a fast paced environment

* Proven ability leading in a Linux or High Performance Computing environment

* Good project management skills - roll-outs, upgrades, migrations, implementations

* Understanding of Network infrastructure
