Axon Moore are currently recruiting for a business based in Blackburn who are looking for a Financial Accountant to join their team on an interim basis for 12 months.

The main purpose of the financial accountant role is to contribute to the robustness and reliability of financial reporting both for internal management purposes and for external statutory reporting.

Key to this role will be the need to maintain the core ledgers and enhance the system of accruals-based accounting.

Duties:
  • Coordinate the core ledger functions (Sales, Purchase, General Ledgers and Cash Book) to ensure that transactions are recorded in an accurate and timely way.
  • Plan and carry out regular (monthly to quarterly) ledger reconciliation to ensure that financial information is complete and accurate.
  • Work closely with Management Accountant and across the organisation to develop an accruals-based system for monthly accounting.
  • Support Head of Finance in mapping out and developing the internal control framework to ensure the continued reliability of accounting systems.
  • Work closely with a small team of Finance Administrators, Management Accountant and Head of Finance to ensure that data in the accounting system is correct and up-to-date
  • Work closely with the Head of Finance to ensure that the year-end and audit process is as efficient as possible, including but not limited to the timely availability of all deliverables to the auditors.
  • Support Head of Finance in the preparation of the periodic statutory tax returns (VAT, Employee and FEU tax, Corporation Tax).
  • Prepare regular BACS payment schedules from the Purchase Ledger.
  • Support Finance Administrator with the system of petty cash and payments of expenses.
  • Directly support the reporting of management accounts by providing an accurate and timely trial balance including all manual corrections and adjustments.
  • Carry out necessary reconciliations and process journals as required.
  • Work with the management accountant to investigate and review key financial variances.
  • Support colleagues across the organisation in using the new financial system.
  • Contribute to the further development and roll out of the financial system (e.g. Expenses and Fixed Assets Register modules#


Person Specification:
  • Qualified or QBE
  • SAP experience is desirable but not essential
  • Strong excel skills
  • Good understanding VAT and employment tax
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment in an SME or similar.
  • Experience of working in a finance function during time of organisational change.
  • Honesty, integrity, reliability and professionalism.
  • Excellent planning, prioritisation and time management skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to juggle a range of different tasks.
  • Immediately available/available on short notice
