Band 6 Orthoptist 1 post 37.5hours full time

An opportunity has arisen to join the Tayside Orthoptic Department. You will be part of the Orthoptic team that consists of 10 orthoptist and 2 assistant practitioners. We provide a comprehensive orthoptic and visual field service to the whole region of Tayside. The orthoptic service provides various clinics including, general orthoptic clinics, community orthoptic service in conjunction with our hospital optometrists, functional vision assessment, reading difficulties clinic and stroke assessment. We work closely with 3 ophthalmologists providing a specialist paediatric service, adult motility service that includes botulinum toxin clinics, tertiary referrals and thyroid eye disease clinic. We also provide orthoptic delivered vision screening service, See4School, for the children in Tayside. The post is based at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee but would include travel to clinics throughout Tayside therefore ability to travel across Tayside is essential.

We an accredited orthoptic practice placement site and take orthoptic students regularly on placement. Ninewells is a teaching hospital and you will be involved in teaching medical students, nursing student and pre-registration optometrists.

We promote team working and collaboration across all roles and recognise the valuable contribution a good skill mix can make to delivering the best quality service and improving patient care.

The post requires a diploma/degree in Orthoptics, current HCPC registration. You should have good clinical experience and knowledge with excellent communication skills. Experience with adult motility cases would be desirable. We would consider applications from newly qualified practitioners as well as experienced orthoptists. New graduates would be expected to start on band 5 and complete NHS flying start program. Mentorship would be provided and over 12-24 months progress to band 6 to fulfil the role requirements (agenda for change annex T).
