Job Description
  • To provide strong visible leadership across the clinical business Unit
  • In conjunction with the Divisional Managing Director to prepare the strategic
    direction and Integrated Business Plan for the Clinical Business Unit
  • To develop and introduce new and innovative business management systems to
    maximise the organisational efficiency and effectiveness of the service area,
    sharing good practice
  • Provide professional management leadership for the Clinical Business Unit
    including the Clinical leads, matrons and Clinical and Operational service
  • Ensure that all staff in the specific service areas are clear about what is expected
    of them (via the appraisal and Performance Management processes) and are
    working together in successful teams to deliver high quality patient services
  • Lead on the implementation of new Trust-wide policies within the service area
    and to co-ordinate the development of policy and service development that may impact beyond the service
  • Responsible for the preparation of strategic service development plans for the service for approval by the Senior Team with support as required from the Divisional Managing Director or General Managers
  • To plan and implement a programme of continuous and evidence-based improvement in all aspects of the service area to ensure services are high quality, efficient, effective and patient-focused
  • Ensuring that robust performance management development systems are developed for the Clinical Business Unit , that can inform Divisional Clinical Cabinet and subsequently upwards to appropriate internal and external governance, delivery and transformational oversight groups
  • To take a key role in ensuring that all Managers are aware of the specific delivery standards/targets they are responsible for delivering and provide support to each manager to ensure delivery of them.
  • To ensure a culture of continuous challenge exists in the service area, ensuring that progressive solutions, which take into account models of best practice, are incorporated into service plans
  • Oversee Clinical Business Unit budget ensuring all financial Standing Financial Instructions are adhered to and budget control targets are met.
  • Performance Management
  • As agreed with the Divisional Managing Director , to ensure that service areas within area of responsibility meet their performance objectives supported by a management regime to deliver continuous improvement
  • To over-see on a day-to-day basis the Clinical Business Units performance management arrangements
  • Work with the Specialities to regularly review the effectiveness of care pathways and to identify and rectify any blockages to performance
The Successful Applicant
  • Educated to Master level or equivalent experience in a health related field
  • Professional management training/qualification.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Experience within the acute sector at senior manager level including operational responsibility for complex specialities/services
  • Proven track record of achieving challenging healthcare targets
  • Experience of delivering programmes of change within an NHS setting
  • Experience of managing and hearing performance issues
  • Experience of budget management and staff management
