Our client is a leading health and safety organisation based in central London. They are looking for an experienced Finance Analyst to join a small team to assist in provide high quality financial services.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Budget Monitoring and Financial Management
Responsible for the delivery of financial business partner support to nominated departments, in order to deliver accurate financial monitoring, budget planning and financial analysis of projects.
Implement and maintain robust financial management systems to record and report on funds received from external sources including liaising with departmental heads as necessary. Assist with the maintenance of financial records kept by individual externally funded projects.
Responsible for the compilation and maintenance of the revenue budget systems. This includes keeping the current databases up to date with changes from growth, savings, medium term items and virements.
Support the development and implementation of the Authority's Medium Term Forecast and annual budget process. Including calculating the impact of staff pay awards and Authority charging rates.
Responsible for the development of financial budget and monitoring processes to make them more robust and less resource intensive.
Manage the process of monthly reporting of income and expenditure, to liaise and challenge spending departments as necessary and to provide a draft Financial Position report on a monthly basis to meet internal and external reporting requirements.
Responsible for the completion of statutory and GLA annual and quarterly returns, in compliance with the relevant reporting standards. This includes central government Outturn and Forecast returns and submissions to the Greater London Authority on the presentation and content of budget/monitoring data.
Support the systems team in developing improvements to the finance systems and to maintain the financial information held on those systems.
Provide financial information, advice and support on the management and monitoring of budgets and associated activities.
Support the preparation of financial year closing and end of year accounts.
Undertake the management and financial accounting for all grants due/received by the Authority. Ensuring that the correct value is credited to the relevant service.Staff management
Lead, manage and motivate staff to maximise their contribution to the Brigade's work and provide a flexible, supportive and efficient unit.
Identify the development skills and training needs of both the team and of individuals and ensure access to training as necessary.
Participate in selection and assessment procedures as necessary.General
To ensure that confidentiality is maintained as appropriate, including the security of sensitive information, and the security of information held concerning staff.
To have a flexible approach to work in order to assist other members of the section, as required.
To deputise for the Senior Finance Manager as required.
Qualifications and Experience
A CCAB or CIMA qualified, part qualified or qualified by experience Accountant.
Experience of practical accounting/finance systems including maintaining and developing computerised financial systems.
Experience of using a range of ICT applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and accounting software or similar packages )
Experience of drafting financial reports for Directors and Members including the ability to explain complex financial issues.
Experience of working directly with departments/delivery units in order to meet their financial reporting and planning requirements.
Good written and oral communication skills in order to draft reports, correspondence and briefing notes; to communicate effectively with others, and to understand and explain technically complex information to staff at all levels
Ability to quickly acquire knowledge of the Authority's systems and procedures
Good numerical skills in order to analyse and interpret complex financial data.
Good data handling skills, in order to manipulate large amounts of data and present information in an accessible format
