We catalyse the creation, restoration and protection of wild landscapes by pursuing projects which utilise multidisciplinary skills under our five pillars of science, technology, law, economics, and culture. This role fits within our legal pillar.Lifescape's legal work focusses on applying the law to solve problems facing the protection of biodiversity and the active rewilding of landscapes. At present, this covers four specific projects: (1) Developing a set of Rewilding Legal Briefings, (2) Creating Legal Mechanisms to Protect Nature, (3) Forest Litigation Collaborative, and (4) Scottish Beaver Protection in collaboration with Trees for Life. We have several other nature-protection legal initiatives in the pipeline and are always exploring new opportunities with our stakeholders.About the roleWe are hiring a dynamic and passionate lawyer to join The Lifescape Project, to play an integral part in our Rewilding Legal Briefings, Legal Mechanisms to Protect Nature and Forest Litigation Collaborative projects.You will also assist in identifying and pursuing funding opportunities and will take an active role in developing and implementing communication strategies to publicise the projects in which you are involved.Lifescape also has several non-legal projects and three executive committees. Depending on your skills and experience, the role will also offer opportunity for involvement in some of these areas.To be successful in this role, you will require:Law degree (essential);Legal professional qualification (desirable);1-3 PQE or foreign equivalent (desirable);Experience with real estate, land and/or property law transactions (highly desirable);Experience with conservation covenants, burdens or easements (highly desirable);Sound understanding of areas of international and national environmental law (highly desirable);Experience with litigation, judicial review, and/or policy advocacy (desirable);Experience of the practical functioning of rewilding projects (desirable);Experience working with civil society organisations (desirable);Experience with public law (desirable) (note, we welcome applications from those at top-tier commercial firms seeking to move to the charity sector);Knowledge of legal systems of multiple countries (desirable); andExperience working as a chair or member of multi-stakeholder working groups or coalitions (desirable).You will be in an exciting position as the fifth employee of Lifescape, with the opportunity to help shape the future direction of the charity.
