Passionate and energetic integration support worker required by Kingston based charity supporting refugees coming to the Royal Borough of Kingston through the Vulnerable Persons Relocation Scheme. 12 month contract to October 2022, possibility of extension subject to funding.21 Hours per week. £23,557 pro rata (£14,014 per annum)Refugee Action Kingstonis a frontline charity that supports people from the asylum-seeking and refugee communities to integrate into the local area. We deliver a range of services and advice around immigration, benefits, education, utilities, health and housing. This is an exciting time at Refugee Action Kingston. Last year, we strengthened our fundraising team, stabilised income and developed our fundraising strategy. In late 2020 we appointed a new director and we're currently undergoing significant transformation with new client activity spaces, re-branding and exciting partnership opportunities. Purpose of Job Refugee Action Kingston has been commissioned to deliver the integration package under the Vulnerable Persons Relocation Scheme in Kingston. The role involves coordinating the various stages of the integration package (housing set up, pre-arrival and ongoing integration support). This post involves working closely with the refugees to provide day-to-day practical support to ensure they have access to statutory and voluntary sector services. Key Duties and Responsibilities Provide practical support to clients in their home and in the community to allow them to function more safely and independently.Facilitate physical, recreational, social and educational activities. To attend during the meeting with RBK Housing to sign Tenancy Agreement. To ensure the families are supported and safe within their new home and know how to use all the appliances, and have all the information they need such as emergency numbers, recycling procedures etc. To support the family with opening a bank account as soon as necessary. To introduce the family to Refugee Action Kingston and ensure they immediately join the projects they can benefit from, such as the Learning Centre, Counselling and Employment Project.To accompany the family to appointments with DWP, GP, dentist, school, hospital, university or any other service as required, especially during the first three months of their arrival. To encourage independence after that.To accompany the families to the local JCP and ensure applications for all appropriate benefits are in place as soon as possible after the arrival.To introduce newly arrived families to Kingston by taking them for a tour and showing them the routes to and from their home and the venues they will be using most frequently.To help clients access services provided by local voluntary sector organisations and community facilities and be included in community/faith groups.Supporting clients to pursue hobbies and interests. Provide liaison with other agencies and the community. Foster positive working relationships with staff members. Provide input to management with regard to the development of the programme and participate in programme evaluations. Performs other related duties as required. DBS will be required.Person SpecificationEssentialAs a community worker, you'll need to be able to relate to people from a wide range of backgrounds and engage with target group. Experience of working with and supporting refugees and an understanding of the issues facing refugees and the services they require to address these, including those related to working with families or children with English as a second language. Good understanding/experience of the processes in relation to the benefits system, housing, utilities and financial management.Excellent listening skills and confidence in talking to people from different cultural backgrounds.Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and a refugee language.Commitment and enthusiasm.Confident with high levels of self-esteem.The ability to work both on your own and in a team.Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular Word, Excel, Outlook. Previous experience of using a case management system.Work flexible hours to meet the needs of the service.The ability to prioritise tasks, to identify and work to deadlines and to manage time effectively under own initiative. Has a practical and logical mind and is naturally well organized.Is respectful, articulate and sensitive in style of communication.
