Financial Services division of a larger company requires a new senior lawyer to join as key part of longer term succession planning within the group. As part of this process you will start to attend key management meetings after a qualifying period.

Reporting to the Head of Legal for Financial Services, you will provide expert senior legal and regulatory support and advice across the Group on regulated contracts; autonomously assisting business colleagues and deputising for the Head of Legal - Financial Services when necessary.


* Autonomously drafting, negotiating and advising on regulated contracts, including high-value and strategically important relationships.
* Providing day to day legal advice and support in relation to new business and product ventures, applying commercial and operational thinking holistically.
* Deputising for the Head of Legal - Financial Services as and when required.
* Acting as a senior member of the Regulatory and broader Legal team by leading on strategic projects, supporting a positive culture and upskilling junior members of the team.
* Supporting day to day management of legal issues in regulated entities.
* Liaising and collaborating with the Group Risk and Compliance team on regulatory matters.
* Supporting the development of day to day legal operations, best practice and efficiencies in the Legal function.
* Ensuring that advice and support takes account of the obtaining the maximum commercial advantage from its business relationships.
* Keeping ahead of all changes to law that affect the operations and advising on compliance with new and existing legislation.
* Providing ad hoc legal support to other areas of the Group as and when required.


* Proven track record in advising FCA regulated businesses and in the drafting and negotiation of regulated commercial contracts.
* Expert in the technical aspects of insurance distribution (including PRIN, SYSC, GEN, ICOBS, SUP, DISP, PERG and SMCR).
* Knowledge of insurance underwriting and other regulated financial services products (including consumer credit).
* Potential to develop into a Head of Legal by advising at all levels of the business including at Senior Leadership Team, Executive Committee and regulated Board level.
* Proven ability to engage with stakeholders to successfully achieve outcomes.
* Interested in mentoring and upskilling junior members of the team.
* Experience within the financial services sector gained in-house or within private practice.

As a commercially orientated lawyer, you will be keen to work directly senior managers and have the ability to work and act on your own initiative. Equally, you will be able to demonstrate an ability to respond positively to new challenges and to develop creative solutions to legal issues.
