Are you looking for a role were you can make a real difference?

High Down is a male Category B prison that has approximately 1200 inmates. The onsite Library is a key point of access for reading, information and other services such as initiatives like Reading book CDs and reading and writing groups. On average the library sees around 45,000 visits each year supporting both leisure and educational reading.

There is a small team lead by the Prison Librarian, who directs both the daily and longer term work at the Prison. Day-to-day the role includes issuing, returning, sorting and shelving of items to maintain a good order of items on shelves. You will also provide Library services including access to information, IT and engagement with wider programmes.

This is a challenging yet highly rewarding role and you will receive training in all aspects of the role including safeguarding. To be shortlisted to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence:

  • An ability to multi-task and plan
  • Commitment to equal opportunities and Equalities and Diversity
