The starting salary for this position is £53,018 per annum based on a 36 hour working week. This role is offered initially as a 6 month fixed-term contract with the potential to extend.

This role is open to remote working meaning you aren't required in the office 5 days a week. We're less about you driving to work and more about us collectively driving down our carbon footprint. We care about how you work rather than where you work; the people rather than the postcode. In support of our people and our greener futures strategies, we'd welcome a conversation with the successful candidate on what remote working may look like for you.

Surrey County Council has embarked upon an ambitious transformation journey. IT services are recognised as a key enabler to support both the council's change plans and the delivery of services to our residents.

The Surrey IT and Digital Strategy and Engagement Team is looking to recruit a User Interaction and Experience Designer to join a team of Digital, Agile and Engagement professionals.

As a User Interaction and Experience Designer you will be a confident and competent designer who is able to develop designs based on evidence of user needs and organisational outcomes. You will have experience of working in agile, including an awareness of agile tools and how to use them. You will be able to advise colleagues on how and why agile methods are used and be able to provide a clear, open and transparent framework in which teams can deliver. You should also be able to adapt, reflect and be resilient.

In this role, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team and responsible for planning and carrying out design activities, which contribute to successful service delivery.

To be successful in this role, you will need:
  • To be responsive to changes in technology and be able to adapt your approach accordingly
  • To be a confident decision maker to enable you to meet user needs in the government context
  • To understand the importance of 'assisted digital' and be able to design services and make decisions to meet user needs
  • To be familiar with a range of prototyping tools such as Figma

We're looking for people who have a passion for delivering excellent customer service and able to build strong relationships at all levels.

At Surrey, our values and behaviours are just as important as our skills and abilities. They shape who we are as an organisation. Find out more about the values we follow.
