Branch Managers are responsible for day-to-day operations in one or more libraries and lead a team of staff and volunteers to create a dynamic and welcoming library service for the whole of their local community. This is a role where you will have many opportunities to have a direct impact on your community, whether providing books and information, organising events and cultural activities, or helping build local partnerships to encourage learning and improve local health and wellbeing.

You will contribute to achieving our strategy for providing a first-class modern library service for the people of Surrey. You will have a proven record of working effectively under pressure, ideally in a busy multi-tasking environment, and have a flexible attitude to work patterns. You will also be able to demonstrate how you can work effectively, both independently and as part of a management team, supporting each other to supervise and develop staff in your group and ensuring an overall standard of excellent customer care.

You will be committed to reading, information delivery, virtual services and professional development of yourself and others. You will be hard-working, enthusiastic, and quick to learn, able to demonstrate a confident understanding of management which will enable you to tackle a wide variety of tasks and situations across a range of libraries.

To be shortlisted to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence:
  • Experience of guiding and supporting teams through change
  • An ability to work with peers at a management level
  • Flexibility in regard to working hours and locations
  • Confidence and resilience

There are no staff parking facilities at libraries in Surrey, however there are car parks close to most locations. If using public transport, please check what options are available for you to travel to individual locations, and when making your application, consider your travel costs and arrangements.
