The roleThe Head of Communications strategically leads Frontiers' editorial communications, promoting our journals and researchers. Reporting to the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, and working closely with the Executive Management Team, the Head of Communications plays a leading role in the development and positioning of the Frontiers brand and leads the team responsible for the implementation of editorial communication strategies across social media, the Frontiers news site, online advertising, email campaigns, events, and print materials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement an integrated communication strategy that supports Frontiers' business goals
  • Engage with senior executives and Heads of Department to develop key messaging, topics, and target audiences across specific communication channels
  • Research industry and market trends to identify original and compelling engagement strategies
  • Provide writing and editing support for key documents, including reports, brochures, press releases, and speeches
  • Coordinate with the Head of Creative and Design to ensure consistency in brand and visual identity
  • Build and maintain external partnerships with industry, media companies, and key influencers
  • Act as a media spokesperson on behalf of Frontiers, develop relationships with international press contacts, and represent the company at events
  • Design and develop standards for communications success
  • Define and monitor key metrics to assess the performance and impact of the Communications campaigns
  • Monitor team performance and professional development, set objectives, and conduct annual appraisals
  • Oversee and track the annual budget and ensure it is fully maximized
About You
  • Bachelor's Degree and at least 5 years' experience leading a communications team
  • Native-level English speaker
  • Ability to work with executive and senior management, providing informed recommendations with excellent negotiation, influencing, and presentation skills
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to work independently and to manage a team with multiple ongoing projects
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills across a wide range of styles and for multiple channels
  • Good knowledge of social media tools and the ability to utilize them for communications
  • Ability to produce clear and concise presentations and reports
  • Experience with digital asset management tools, analytics tools, and content management systems
  • Ability to consistently meet tight deadlines and prioritize varied workloads
  • Collaborative team player and comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic global environment
