This Financial Controller job in Edinburgh is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant to work with a very impressive charity for a period of up to 18 months, covering for maternity leave. The charity is one of Scotland's leading Social Care providers, helping people of all ages and from all backgrounds including the elderly and infirm, children and disadvantaged families, the homeless and people struggling with substance abuse for example. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Financial Controller will directly manage 1 member of staff and a further 6 indirectly, whilst working with a number of stakeholders across the organisation. Although based in Edinburgh, all staff members are currently working from home and when office working does resume, the organisation will operate a hybrid approach tailored around the individual's circumstances and preferences, as well as operating a very flexible working hours policy.
As Financial Controller, your primary responsibility will be to produce monthly management accounts with associated commentary and analysis as appropriate. You'll take charge of the annual budgeting process too, liaising with key stakeholders at all times whilst ensuring the appropriate systems are robust and fit for purpose. The preparation and review of the annual statutory accounts will also be a key responsibility, as will be your ability to work with both external and internal auditors as necessary. Treasury Management, including managing the relationship with the bank and preparing regular cashflows will be crucial, as will be your ability to provide a variety of reports for Senior Management/Non-Finance Stakeholders as and when appropriate.
To be successful, it is envisaged that you will be a qualified accountant with post-qualified experience gained at Finance Manager/Financial Controller level or equivalent. Applications are also welcomed from candidates currently working in audit or business services with a leading firm of Chartered Accountants who are seeking a move "in-house". Either way, you will be a proven staff manager and an effective communicator - particularly with non-finance personnel and you will be comfortable working with minimal supervision.
Although the current Financial Controller doesn't go on maternity leave until November, the organisation is very happy to hire a suitably qualified and experienced candidate now, in order to give the successful candidate plenty of time to get up to speed. As a result, it is anticipated that this post will be available for 12-18 months. Part-time working can also be accommodated too. This really is a great opportunity to make a difference, not just to the organisation, but to society at large.
