Government Affairs Manager (Pharmaceuticals)

Major tasks and responsibilities include:

Identify future themes/ trends to which the business should shape and respond through active networking, environmental monitoring and assessment.

Ensure efficient internal communication measures for both collating and sharing information, strategic counsel for business units and recommendations for company response.

Lead the development of appropriate external policies and positions for the company on

specific Business Unit issues working closely with cross-functional colleagues.

Lead the co-ordination of company responses to government and health as well as policy initiatives/consultations.

Take an active role in issue management.

Lead on the development and delivery of government affairs' strategies to deliver an appropriate external policy environment to support the development of relevant markets for the business units.

Stakeholder development and external engagement: to identify, inform, brief and forge relations with government, patient organisations and key opinion formers on all issues of importance to the company.

Proactively advocate the company's positions at political, healthcare and industry specific conferences & seminars and industry bodies as appropriate.

Raise the company profile among key opinion formers through external communications.

Deputise for Director of Government Affairs as required and support them in achieving overall strategic aims for England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

Effectively manage the work of Government Affairs' Agencies engaged to support advocacy projects.

Efficiently manage all project budgets.

Provide effective evaluation and reporting of government affairs' activities to internal business unit


Ensure adherence to industry-specific codes of practice or conduct, advertising codes, regulatory directives and guidelines, as applicable to the role, and to the Program for Legal Compliance and Corporate Responsibility at the company.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

-Good understanding or ability to understand the impact of public policy activities in a commercial environment and leading a company response.

-Experience of leading the development and implementation of government strategies.

-Leading projects in cross-functional teams and external agencies.

-Good internal and external stakeholder relationship management skills.

-Project management skills.

-Ability to translate complex scientific data into communications materials for use with key political, policy and advocacy stakeholders.

-Knowledge of Parliamentary processes and experienced in delivering government affairs and advocacy campaigns.

-Good understanding of health policy or government affairs.

-Excellent written and verbal communication skills one-to-one and in groups.
