TWI Ltd (TWI) is one of the world's foremost independent research and technology organisations, with expertise in engineering, materials and joining technologies. Established in 1946, it has facilities across the globe, including a Technology and Training Centre in Middlesbrough. This local facility is an extension of the resources at company headquarters in Cambridge, with specially designed training suites and state-of-the-art equipment for underwater inspection, plastics joining, coatings technology, numerical modelling, weld inspection and non-destructive testing applications.
TWI is working with the Tees Valley Combined Authority (TVCA), as well as other regional partners to help develop a low carbon future. This position has been created as part of an initiative funded by TVCA and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
We seek to recruit a motivated individual to lead on regional Business Development activity and represent TWI more generally across the Tees Valley and surrounding regions. Activities will reflect the growing regional interest in achieving Net Zero and the Hydrogen Economy and also provision of support to TWI's engagement with smaller business and subsequent project delivery, where TWI are currently running two regionally funded (ERDF) business support programmes. The successful applicant will also be expected to work closely with TVCA and other regional partners, as well national and international collaborators, to develop business proposals and secure future funding for projects of this nature alongside wider strategic projects which will enable both hydrogen based and net zero economies to be realised and in support of TWI's wider regional and national objectives.
Main duties and responsibilities include:
•Lead the engagement with small businesses in Tees Valley to support delivery of two regional ERDF funded business support programmes.
•Work closely with TVCA to develop a realistic and focused regional innovation plan focused on low carbon technologies for the Tees Valley
•Work with government and other key influencers to help develop project funding opportunities around Net Zero and hydrogen economy.
•Prepare and win funding proposals to help support the development of the hydrogen based economy in the Tees Valley
•Engage with key industrial partners to develop high value and strategic business opportunities.
You will preferably have a strong technical background in engineering as well as experience of preparing innovative based proposals. Knowledge of the energy intensive industries or the energy sector would be beneficial. Experience of working with government would be an advantage, but not essential
The role requires effective communication at all levels, you will need to work effectively across both industry and government and be able to develop large funding proposals for the region. You will also have to have to regularly engage with TVCA to support their hydrogen and clean growth agenda
To operate at a senior level, you will have the required knowledge to work across industry and government to develop Net Zero focused projects and to be able to identify and exploit profitable new business for the Tees Valley economy. You should also be able to work across the different technical teams within TWI to help them apply their specialist expertise to Net Zero related opportunities. This position will require regular travel both in the UK and abroad and is based out of TWI Middlesbrough offices.
