Job Purpose
  • Responsible for all Italian products category management within our UK customer base.
  • Establish key customer contacts so that Princes is actively involved in range reviews with the goal of maximising distribution of Napolina products. This requires regular customer contact to monitor and manage both customer and Napolina performance to deliver mutually agreed business targets.

  • Achieve and exceed budgeted targets for the Italian products Business sector through delivery of best in class category management to our customers. Within this to have outright ownership of delivering marketing metrics as set out in the brand plan, such as;
  • Incremental weighted category distribution
  • Incremental NPD listings
  • Implementation of promotional strategies
  • To develop and retain strong customer relationships across the commercial, marketing and merchandising teams in each of the Multiple accounts.
  • To develop category credentials in all relevant Imported areas and targeted customers, by being the authority in Italian products, shopping and consumption habits.
  • Work closely with the Napolina brand team to support the development of strategic plans and the Customer teams in the creation and delivery of Customer account plans.
  • Responsible for management of the customer marketing strategy.
  • Line management responsibility.
  • Internal contacts - Buying; Operations; Sales; Marketing; Technical; NPD; Logistics; Legal; Finance; Treasury; Customer Services, Planning and Stock control Teams.
  • External contacts - Customer buyers (in support of Sales team), merchandising colleagues and marketing managers responsible for in-store execution.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Operating within the Italian products commercial team and working with the Commercial controller to deliver;
  • External category management
  • Customer interaction on a regular basis, providing market performance analysis and impartial guidance as to how the customer should best develop and grow the category.
  • Pro-actively manage customer range reviews so we take the lead, develop and implement mutually agreed range and merchandising plans. This must be done in conjunction with the Napolina brand and Sales teams so our objectives are both aligned internally and integrated with those of the customer.
  • Internal category management
  • Analyse and interpret market data and provide ad hoc professional reports to relevant internal departments as and when required, through appropriate management of IRI, Kantar, Dunnhumby and internal data.
  • Analyse price and promotions to understand the impact on the category and provide appropriate recommendations for the future.
  • Provide product portfolio analysis by reviewing market information and internal sales data to recommend the optimum brand and own label range offering.
  • Provide recommendation around the short to medium term strategic direction for the SBA's as required.
  • Provision of all internal reporting requirements for Italian products, including House Share, Brand scorecard report, SMB and BPM meetings as well as providing timely and accurate input into the annual Business Planning process.
  • Manage £400k + budget to best achieve the appropriate levels of data required to fulfil all of the above.
  • Own label development
  • Combine knowledge of internal capability with market intelligence, retailer "gap analysis" and appropriate third party research to generate COB NPD ideas for customers to provide new revenue streams for Princes.
  • Strategic development
  • Responsible for aligning our retail partners around the Princes category vision.
  • Manage the Italian products customer marketing plan to develop that vision in store.
  • Champion a Channel approach to achieve ambition beyond the Mults.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • An experienced category manager that has worked with major multiples for minimum 3-5 years. Proven experience in a Category (& preferably also experience of Customer) marketing role essential.
  • Ability to use key category marketing information databases such as IRI and Kantar, as well as being confident in pulling and interpreting retailer specific data such as SIP in Sainsburys, Hive in Coop, Dunnhumby in Tesco and Retail link in Asda. Then using this data in the delivery of best in class category insight.
  • Strong organisational skills with a methodical, structured approach.
  • Good commercial awareness and a knowledge of FMCG / market conditions.
  • Strong communication & team working skills.
  • Numerate, with excellent attention to detail
