The Data Centre Engineer Role:
As the Data Centre Engineer you will be responsible for maintaining the smooth and efficient running of the data centres and admin building across the managed services estate, ensuring compliance to company policies.
Working as part of a small, hand-picked team, you'll be responsible for tracking resources required for new and existing projects. You will need to be able to forward plan the use of servers, storage, SAN, network devices, backup, rack space and whether skills are available to fulfil any requirements.
You will need to work hand in hand with the operational teams when implementing new customer/internal requirements and ensure that the resources are available to fit in with our existing estates and capabilities, this can range from a solution of full outsource and replacement to discreet services being provided via our cloud offerings. This will sometimes require travel to our sites to carry out the work and on occasion overnight stays.
+ HP Proliant DL and Blade Servers.
+ An understanding of Storage Area Networks and storage devices.
+ An understanding of Windows Server, VMware, Hyper-V and Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu & deriv.)
+ Networking understanding of firewalls, routers, switches, WAN, LAN, IP addressing, DNS and load balancers.
+ Rack requirements and structured cabling deployment.
+ DR and failover for systems and solutions.
+ Understanding of monitoring technologies.
+ Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
+ The ability to communicate with other teams to ensure resources required fit into existing capabilities.
+ The ability to work alone or as part of a team.
+ Proficient in the use of MS packages including Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
+ Solid planning and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work.
+ Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and adhere to deadlines.
+ Ability to carry out tasks to a high standard with a strong eye for attention to detail and thorough approach to their work.
+ Proactive and flexible with a “can do” attitude.
Location: Based from our Data Centre in Huntingdon
Hours: Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week) between the hours of 08:30 and 17:00.
