DKMS has an exciting opportunity for a Donor Request Manager within our office inChiswick, West London. You will be working on a full-time permanentbasis (37.5-hour week, Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm) and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £38,000 per annum plus great company benefits.

About DKMS:

DKMS UK is a national charity and not-for-profit organisation established in the UK in 2013. The organisation works in the field of blood cancer and blood disorders, with the primary aim of recruiting potential blood stem cell donors to the UK registry, who will then be available to donate their blood stem cells to patients in need of a life-saving blood stem cell transplant.

Donor Request Department:

The department is responsible for liaising with, and providing support to our donors who have been identified as a potential stem cell match for a patient. This includes the evaluation of their medical suitability and eligibility. The team manages all processes from blood testing, medical examination and appointments to the donation itself. They guide and advise the donor at all stages and coordinate the communication between all involved international and national parties.

The Donor Request Managerrole:

You will lead and oversee the Work Up, Follow Up, and Donor Patient Contact teams working as an integral member of the Donor Request Management Department, supporting the coordination of stem cell donations with unrelated donors.

Key Responsibilities of the Donor Request Manager:
  • To line manage the (WU/FU/DPC) team, setting work priorities, providing hands-on coaching, guidance, and support to help develop their skills and experience.
  • Providing training and development opportunities to achieve targeted individual and group goals and KPIs
  • Conducting quarterly performance review meetings with direct reports
  • To coordinate bone marrow and peripheral blood stem cell donations between identified stem cell donors and one of DKMS UK's stem cell collection centres
  • Completing information sessions with identified donors as a means of ensuring they are fully prepared for the stem cell donation and collection, paying particular attention to ensuring the donor gives informed consent, in line with DKMS UK's "principles of informed consent" schedule
  • Evaluating donors for medical and non-medical factors affecting suitability and eligibility using guidelines set by DKMS UK and national regulations, including referring for further medical assessments where required
  • Scheduling and managing donor medical assessments, working closely with the patient's team and medical advisors to facilitate donor medical clearance
  • Working with DKMS internal databases to record and document accurate donor case notes
  • Communicating and liaising closely with specialist courier companies to schedule national and international transport of stem cell products
  • Working closely with the DKMS international medical team and other DKMS organisations in other countries to contribute to the quality and efficiency of DKMS UK policies and processes

What are we looking for in our Donor Request Manager?
  • Educated to A-Level (or equivalent) or relevant vocational training
  • 3-5 plus years work experience, working in a busy team/organisation
  • Knowledge of, or ability to understand, medical terminology, case-note documentation, medical history documentation
  • 3-5 plus years' experience of managing and leading a team towards shared goals and strategic aims
  • Experience working in a target driven and KPI environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including active listening skills and a good phone manner
  • Strong management skills
  • Willingness to become acquainted with, and understand, a very specific discipline/branch of medical science
  • A high degree of sensitivity and empathy
  • Very proactive work ethic and ability to work on own initiative
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work to and achieve clear targets and deadlines
