The role of Deputy Regional Director is to support the Service in delivering its long term strategic plan and translating this into effective and efficient operational practice.

The post is key to the Regional management team and as such will contribute fully to the leadership and governance of the North Region and the Scottish Ambulance Service as a whole. You will ensure the regional implementation of the Services Strategy, as well as leading on all operational issues across the Region and in some instances for the entire Service.

You will support the Regional Director, deputising when relevant, in the provision of leadership and operational management for the planning, delivery and improvement of services across the Region/Service. Working with individuals and teams, you will develop and implement continual improvement and innovative solutions to deliver modern, safe and effective services, providing a person centred experience.

Leading a dedicated and experienced management team, you will strive to deliver excellent outcomes, be able to influence others and effect change as well as develop a person centred culture. You will also have a key role in leading in the collaboration with the wider system across Health and Social Care.

Working through the Regional structure, the role also has significant resource management responsibility, including regionally based staff, operational fleet, finance and fleet.

You will have a strong background in operational management, in particular an excellent track record in performance delivery as well as exceptional people leadership/management skills and experience of working in partnership with trade unions in a large and complex organisational setting.

Whilst knowledge of the NHS would be advantageous, it is not essential as experience of creating a positive performance culture is more beneficial.

There is a changing Health and Social care agenda across Scotland and the successful post holder will have an unprecedented opportunity, through their interactions with other territorial Health Boards, Health and Social Care Integrated Joint Boards and wider stakeholders, to help shape and implement Health and Social Care services across the Region. Therefore, the right candidate will have experience in being able to demonstrate past experience in collaborative working across a wide range of partners and stakeholders.

Strong communications and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to seek and incorporate the views of patients, staff, NHS Boards and other significant stakeholders into the long term strategic direction of the Service. You will also need to have the ability to analyse and interpret complex operational and clinical data to identify trends and support the development of the future workforce model.

You will need to hold a post graduate qualification or have equivalent senior management experience and be able to demonstrate significant in depth knowledge gained through public or private sector management of services.

The post will have a remit for the North Region, although travel throughout Scotland will be required at times.

If you have any specific questions about the process, or would like to organise a call with the Regional Director (North) to discuss this opportunity further, please contact Milne Weir on 07909 001 820.
