The post is subject to a six-month probationary period.

About Us

The Elim Pentecostal Church (or its legal name: Elim Foursquare Gospel Alliance) is a UK-based Pentecostal Christian denomination and represents a global network of 500 plus churches in the UK and thousands overseas, operating in over 50 countries worldwide. Elim International Centre (EIC), our central administrative office is based in Malvern, Worcestershire where Regents Theological College is also co-located. EIC has approximately 100 staff.

About the role

As an integral member of the Executive Team, you will play a key role in the leadership of the organisation in support of the Executive Director, the National Leadership Team, the Finance Board and the Audit & Governance Committee (AGC).

You will work collaboratively with the ED and Department Heads to deliver an organisational change strategy. This in turn will deliver a future-fit business infrastructure that effectively serves EFGA's mission and charitable objectives.

There is an occupational requirement under paragraph 3 of Part I of Schedule 9 to the Equality Act 2010 for this role to be held by a person who subscribes to Elim's foundational truths.

Summary of Role Responsibilities

You will:

· Develop and implement a sustainable finance strategy for the organisation

· Provide leadership to the Finance Department. This includes delegating where appropriate, carrying our regular reviews, ensuring the provision of training as necessary, seeking to continuously improve our systems and services in line with legislative requirements and best practice.

· Have specific responsibility for delivery of EFGA's financial management, best practice and governance.

· Be the executive lead and person of contact for the Elim Ministers' Pension Fund (EMPF)

· Lead the annual external audit process and timetable on behalf of the Elim Foursquare Gospel Alliance.

· Have overall leadership of our commercial partnerships and supplier relationships.

· Support colleagues to manage devolved budgets and to ensure that reports are generated for budget managers and departments.

· Work with the ED to develop and manage the risk register for the organisation, provide a regular report to the board on key risks and mitigations.

· As Director of Elim Trading Company, attend board meetings and working with the Executive Director, ensure EFGA complies with all statutory regulations and funding requirements

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Business Strategy

• To ensure the provision of high-quality financial reporting, support and advice services to the NLT/ Trustees, Finance Board, Management Board and AGC, enabling evidence-based decision-making.

• To support the ED and NLT in long-term business planning and collaborate with the ED to update the risk register to identify potential problem areas and propose solutions.

• To develop a three-year rolling budget to ensure future sustainability.

• To prepare and present finance reports to the Finance Board, Audit & Governance Committee and the NLT in a timely and accurate manner.

• To help develop and cost business structures and systems in line with both the finance and organisational strategies.

Management and working with colleagues

• To be an active member of the Executive Management Team, helping to set and monitor the organisation's strategy and its achievement.

• To line manage and support the Finance Manager to lead and develop the finance team.

• To develop and implement systems and a programme of coaching to enable managers across the organisation to take on devolved budget management responsibilities.

• To provide substantial financial management and leadership to the finance department.

Systems and Controls

• To develop, monitor, and ensure the quality of all aspects of financial systems and controls.

• To ensure all financial control systems and policies are reviewed on a regular basis and properly implemented including purchase ordering, banking, creditor payments, debtor collection and payment of grants to schemes etc.

Statutory Accounting

• To oversee legal compliance and the preparation of annual statutory accounts and returns as required by the various regulatory bodies.

• To work with the auditors and AGC to prepare the annual accounts

• To work with the ED and NLT Board on the preparation of the Annual Report and presentation of the accounts to the Elim Leadership Summit Business Programme.

• To act as the Director for the Elim Trading Company.

Management Accounting, Payroll and Pensions

• To ensure that budget managers receive monthly management accounts to support effective and autonomous devolved budget management.

• Forecast projected outturn for both restricted and unrestricted funds.

• To lead on the annual budget setting process.

• To oversee the payroll system, pension provisions and childcare vouchers as relevant for the team.

Commercial Partners

• Monitor the overall effectiveness (cost and quality) of our current legal expenses, public liability insurance and benefits advice services via our brokerage partners and advising the ED and board on any proposed changes.

• Ensure that the charity acts in accordance with FCA regulation in its relationship with insurers and brokers.

• Undertake any other related tasks commensurate to the seniority of the role as directed by the Executive Director.

Person Specification

You will be an experienced finance professional, ideally from a charity environment. The skills that we are looking for are detailed below and will be assessed initially via Curriculum Vitae (CV) and the supporting statement and if shortlisted, by interview and references.

Competencies - Essential, Desirable and Qualifications

Qualified with a recognised Accounting Body (CIMA, ICAEW, ACCA, CIPFA or equivalent)

Knowledge and Experience

Significant experience of operating at a senior level including reporting at a board level

Experience of effective use and development of finance systems and reporting tools

Experience of financial regulations, including statutory accounting, budgeting, forecasting and cash management.

Experience in ensuring strong governance and internal control processes and procedures in place

Proven experience of developing and maintain systems for the timely production of relevant financial management, financial forecasting and risk information management

Previous charity experience with a good working knowledge of charity SORP.

Experience in use of Power BI as a data & performance visualizer.

Skills and abilities

Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills with enthusiasm for working as part of a team

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate financial information and concepts to non-financial persons/laypersons.

Experience of line management of staff

Ability to manage relationships through listening, influencing, negotiating and collaborating

Can-do attitude with a hands on approach and the ability to drive and manage change

IT skills with competence of working with Excel.

Drive to deliver excellent customer service with the ability to accessible to church leaders and their associate staff
