JOB- Mechanical Design Engineer
LOCATION- South Devon
TERM- Permanent
SALARY- £35,000-£45,000 per annum plus other benefits
My client is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their business on a permanent basis in the South Devon area. The ideal Candidate will have a good understanding around general Mechanical Engineering and will ensure they always work to the highest standards satisfying the company's and customer's requirements by driving products from design, through to prototyping and manufacture meeting the customer/client needs.

The Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:
  • Degree qualified or the equivalent Mechanical Engineering, Science or similar
  • 2-3 years engineering industry experience working in a similar Design role within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience working in Mechanical Design using 3D CAD SolidWorks software ideally
  • Hands-on standard of working with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work to deadlines and have great attention to detail
  • Be self-motivated and have an organised approach to work
  • Be able to work well individually as well as a team
  • Have a good appreciation for current manufacturing techniques
  • Desired but not expected passion for Aerospace
  • Any industrial experience with opto-mechanics or fibre-optics would be desirable but is not essential as training can be given
  • Stress modelling experience would be beneficial as well; thermal and stress
The Mechanical Design Engineer role will involve:
  • Generate designs from concept which will involve creating housing for electronics, optics and fibre optics
  • Carrying out technical product development reviews and produce reports resulting from technical activities
  • Applying engineering design principles and working within a multi-disciplinary team to ensure compliance to specifications
  • Developing thermal and vibration simulation models of systems
  • Communicating all findings to engineering colleagues to help with the progression of design projects
  • Generating drawings suitable for manufacturing / BS standards
  • Taking products from design, through prototyping to qualification and manufacture
