We are seeking an enthusiastic and well motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join our established and supportive Acute Sector Adult Team.
This is a new post which will sit predominantly within the Intensive Care Unit and other critical care settings within Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. As a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will be responsible for assessing, treating and managing patients with multiple aetiologies and comorbidities who present with complex communication, swallowing and tracheostomy weaning needs. Within the wider multi-disciplinary team you will demonstrate advanced clinical reasoning skills and an integrated clinical management focus, showcasing your skills in tracheostomy management, including participation in weaning programmes and decannulation; complex dysphagia management for which FEES competencies are desirable; and knowledge and skills with introducing high and low tech communication systems.
You will be working within a very supportive MDT with excellent opportunities for collaborative working, quality improvement initiatives and training opportunities. You will also be part of the speech and language therapy service which covers a wide range of acute hospital patient care, including neurosciences, ENT, head and neck cancer, and acute stroke, and has established pathways for peer support, mentoring and supervision, and CPD opportunities.
Candidates should have extensive experience in assessing and managing dysphagia, and it is highly desirable that you are also competent in the use of FEES.
