REED are delighted to support our client in the Larne area who require an Environmental Health Officer for a contract until March 2022.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Reporting into the Principal Environmental Health Officer, you will be responsible for documentary, identity and physical checks at Larne Port on:
  • Fish and Fishery Products (Product of Animal Origin) for human consumption
  • Products of Non Animal Origin (NAO)
  • Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported Fish Controls Organic Imports Materials in Contact with Food
  • Carry out the appropriate inspection; investigation; assessment or activity within defined Environmental Health functions.
  • Determine in conjunction with the Principal Environmental Health Officer and/or Lead Environmental Health Officer as necessary, appropriate action in accordance with corporate enforcement policies and guidance, relevant legislation, Codes of Practice etc. to ensure compliance with statutory requirements
  • Undertake and assist in interviews, including those under PACE, prepare evidence and attend court proceedings
  • Prepare and serve authorised statutory notices on proprietors, managing directors of commercial and industrial operations, and on members of the public
  • Prepare reports on Environmental Health issues at the request of the Environmental Health Manager and/or Principal Environmental Health Officers
  • Support the Environmental Health Manager & Health Officers in running environmental awareness/health & wellbeing

    initiatives, training and campaigns
  • Comply with all policies and procedures relevant to this role, including arrangements for risk management
  • Achieve high standards of personal performance, through meeting agreed personal targets and undertaking planned programmes of professional development
  • Examine opportunities to gain efficiencies and improve effectiveness including collaborative partnerships
  • Maintain high standards of personal accountability

Essential Criteria:
  • Degree in Environmental Health and hold membership of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health
  • Minimum of one years' experience in applying knowledge and understanding of current Environmental Health related legislation to determine compliance
  • One years' experience in successfully enforcing and remedying breaches
  • Experience in forming effective and professional relationships with stakeholders including business owners, statutory agencies and members of the public
  • Hold a full current driving licence valid in the UK and access to a form of transport that meets the needs of the post in full OR have access to a form of transport which enables the applicant to meet the full requirements of the post in full
