The Bishop's Palace and Gardens is a charitable organisation which is seeking new Trustees for this unique heritage site. The eight-hundred-year-old Palace sits among fourteen acres of stunning RHS partner gardens that drew in 120,000 visitors in 2019. The Charity aims are to be part of the local community, engaging with a wide range of people to use the site for their enjoyment and learning, while ensuring the financial stability and conservation of this heritage site.

We are looking for new trustees who are able to dedicate time, energy and skills to help us conserve this unique heritage site and take it forward for future generations to use. We are particularly seeking to achieve a diverse Trustee board, and particularly welcome expressions of interest from people traditionally under-represented in charitable trusts. Previous experience of being a trustee is not necessary as training will be given. The Palace is home to the Bishops of Bath and Wells and its Christian/Church of England heritage continues to define our values BUT there is no faith -based expectation on staff, volunteers or trustees and we welcome colleagues of all faiths and of none.

Our trustees are responsible for the strategic direction of the charity and to help us move forward we are looking for three new trustees with particular experience of:

• Community Engagement
• Horticulture / Estate Management
• Heritage/ funding - with a background in Interpretation
• Fundraising
• Financial/commercial development - with experience of managing/leading visitor

Trustees meet formally four times a year but all trustees are encouraged to attend monthly meetings with the senior management team. Trustees serve on a voluntary basis, although reasonable expenses will be paid.
