Who we are looking for
We are seeking to recruit a Legal Counsel to join the VFS UK and Ireland business. The VFS UK and Ireland business employs around 100 people and is based out of Warwick.
Reporting to the VFS UK and Ireland Managing Director, the Legal Counsel will work at a senior level and will provide business and strategic legal advice to VFS UK and Ireland. The Legal Counsel will be responsible, alongside the Global Legal Director, for the management and supervision of a paralegal intern.
You will
Represent the Legal team in the UK and Ireland Executive Management Team, providing strategic legal input and direction. You will work collaboratively on projects across all VFS departments to provide the necessary legal or compliance support.
Advise the UK and Ireland business on drafting and negotiating of commercial contracts, including addressing queries on the terms of financial agreements; and advise on regulatory and compliance topics, including anti-money laundering, competition law, anti-bribery and corruption.
Support the business in its efforts to manage and govern cyber security risk, data privacy protection and risk, and all associated data management and data governance aspects that flow from these areas.
Work with the Global Legal Director to review and monitor the effectiveness of legal risk controls and to identify and remedy control gaps. You will assist in formulating and establishing legal and compliance best practices, policies and procedures and provide training on these topics.

What about you?
You will have 5-10 years of post-qualification experience with a solid commercial background, preferably with in-house experience relating to asset-based finance, financial services or general commercial law.
You will have excellent technical skills and a strong commercial mindset. You will be a strategic thinker and a keen problem solver, who knows how to assess risk and recommend solutions that balance business and risk perspectives.

You will be comfortable in handling the widest range of legal issues that may arise, even if outside your core areas of expertise.

You will be experienced in advising management teams and have strong communication and influencing skills across all levels. You need strong personal credibility, professionalism and integrity.

You will have excellent organisational skills and be able to manage your own workload with multiple priorities under tight timeframes. You will be comfortable working on your own initiative with minimal supervision.
