JOB TITLE: COURT OFFICER

LOCATION: WFH/ EALING

PAY RATE: £17.76 HOURLY RATE (PAYE)

HOURS: MONDAY- FRIDAY, 9AM- 5PM

DURATION: 3 MONTH ASSIGNMENT (POSSIBILITY OF BEING EXTENDED)

START DATE: ASAP

COURT OFFICER'S MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Preparation and conduct of rent possession cases from instruction to completion including drafting claim forms, particulars of claim, applications, warrants and witness statements
  • Considering the evidence supplied by instructing officers and evaluating whether the evidence justifies the Council taking legal action. Drafting witness statements and obtaining further evidence as necessary to ensure a good case is presented
  • Manage casework to comply with time limits and meet deadlines to ensure that all matters are processed effectively and efficiently
  • Managing and reviewing caseload
  • Providing timely legal advice to officers as required on rent possession cases
  • Representing the Council in the County Court
  • Communicating and negotiating with solicitors, defendants, members of the public and others in writing, by telephone and in person
  • Instructing counsel and negotiating fees with Counsel's Clerk. Also attending court to assist counsel and take a detailed note of the proceedings
  • To respond to correspondence to customers including Councillors/ MPs/ Ombudsman/ Audit/ Complaints etc.
  • Other duties and responsibilities of a similar professional nature, and at a similar responsibility level to those described above which may be allocated

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE MUST HAVE:
  • Experience of preparation of documentation for Court Hearings including draft court orders, obtaining evidence, taking statements and ensuring the evidence meets the Court's standards and the submission of these documents to Court
  • Experience dealing with solicitors, agencies, defendants and members of the public in writing, on the telephone and in person
  • Experience in referring complex cases
