Software Developer - Met Office
This role offers the opportunity to engage in both server-side and client-side development. Work will be in an Agile environment and will also give exposure to Pangeos & the Jasmin cloud.
The Clean Air programme is a £42.5M integrated programme of air quality research & innovation, which aims to bring together the UK's world class air quality research capabilities, including across the health, atmospheric and behavioural/social sciences to address, and support high quality multi- and interdisciplinary research and innovation to develop practical solutions to today's air quality issues and equip the UK to proactively tackle future air quality issues, in order to protect health and support clean growth.
To code specified requirements for the Clean Air Framework (both server and client side)
To contribute to ongoing design process (user cases, requirements gathering, DOM design)
To engage with Agile development, including scrum, planning and review meetings
To contribute to the build & maintenance of the pangeo environment
To assist with software & dataset release/ implementation within Jasmin cloud.
Essential Qualifications, Skills & Abilities
Implementation knowledge - for example configuring virtual machines, docker, and kubernetes
Experience of leading and/or supporting significant software developments
Evidence of excellent (written, oral, presentation and listening) communication skills, with an ability to communicate complex technical matters effectively in a relevant way to different audiences.
Independent and self-directed nature, able to take the initiative without close supervision
Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Abilities
Some of the following are desirable
Use of Django web development framework
Experience of working in an Agile environment
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders or collaborators
Experience in use of Mongo Database
