LOCATION: Any location in the City
HOURS OF WORK: 37 hours per week, across 5 out of any 7 day period
JOB PURPOSE AND ROLE:
To assist in undertaking a general range of tasks required for the effective and efficient maintenance of the environment of the City to include horticultural operations and basic cleansing activities under direct supervision.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.To assist in undertaking a general range of tasks covering general environmental maintenance in addition to a range of horticultural operations under the responsibility of higher graded members of staff.
2.To safely use and correctly set the full range of tools and equipment supplied by the service area, including the use of powered hand tools, light plant and pedestrian operated / ride on equipment.
3.To safely apply approved pesticides. (Where qualified)
4.To liaise with Unskilled, Semi-skilled, Senior Environmental Services Operatives, Team Leaders, Supervisors, Managers, other employees, Council Officers, and the public as required, promoting a positive image that enhances the reputation of the service.
5.Must be prepared to support the work carried out by other council divisions, in particular information required by the Councils Enforcement section regarding statements and information about waste that could lead to a successful prosecution
6.To drive a range of vehicles and plant (where appropriately qualified and trained) including the use of ride on mowers and equipment and non-LGV vehicles etc.
7.To operate to work schedules and specifications in order to carry out the full range of duties required.
8.To ensure that schedules of programmed and non programmed work are undertaken in accordance with service standards and the requirements of the client/customer under the direction of higher graded staff.
9.To maintain all necessary records, ensuring that they are complete and accurate e.g. worksheets time sheets, and other records including chemical logs and vehicle check lists where appropriate.
10.To ensure that client/customer requests are dealt with in a prompt, competent and safe manner, routinely reporting to the Lead operatives/Supervisor/Manager.
11.To assist in providing effective communication across the service.
12.To be able to work on own initiative (including driving duties where applicable) or as part of a team.
13.You will be required to respond to emergency calls and weekend working, as part of the call out rostering arrangements operated within Environmental Services .
14.To contribute towards the delivery of the aims and objectives of Environmental Services, and to undertake any appropriate training as and when appropriate.
15.To comply with the Council's Customer Care, Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety policies, standing orders, and financial regulations and any other relevant policies of the organisation.
16.To carry out any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post subject to any reasonable adjustments under the Disability Discrimination Act.
