A well respected in based in central London is in urgent need of an Information Assurance Advisor to support the Information Services team support the overall Professional Services Team

Structure of the Role:

Role: Information Assurance Advisor
Rate: £20.88 - £24.19 per hour PAYE
Location: Remote working
Duration: 3 Months
Full-Time: 35 hours per week

The essence of the Team and the role:

The Information Assurance team is responsible for overseeing information governance at the university, ensuring compliance with Data Protection and Information Management legislation. The Deputy Data Protection Officer (DPO) and Information Assurance Team Leader will support the DPO and Head of Information Assurance and line manage the Information Assurance team to ensure the university's compliance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003, Environmental Information Regulations 2004, General Data Protection Regulation 2016 and the Data Protection Act 2018

Main Responsibilities of the Role:

Information Compliance

Provide support and assistance to all areas and levels of the University on the application of Data Protection and Information legislation
Act as a recognised source of expertise
Provide verbal and written advice and guidance as appropriate
Data Protection Subject Access Requests

Ensure request meets application criteria
Liaise with all relevant areas of the University to source information
Review information to ensure there are no barriers to release
Redact information as necessary
Ensure responses are sent promptly and within the statuary timescale
Freedom of Information Requests

Ensure request meets application criteria
Liaise with all relevant areas of the University to source information
Review information to ensure there are no barriers to release
Redact information as necessary
Consider whether any exemptions to release apply
Agree on response with relevant areas
Ensure responses are sent promptly and within the statuary timescale
Inform relevant sections of the University about the release of the information

Qualifications and Knowledge:

Educated to degree level (or equivalent), preferably with an appropriate professional qualification in Information Assurance or substantial relevant vocational experience.
Knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework governing data protection, freedom of information and records management.
Knowledge of the higher education environment and its administrative structures and operations would be preferable.

Experience, Skills and Abilities:

Substantial experience in an Information Assurance environment meeting legal compliance requirements around Data Protection legislation.
Experience in responding to freedom of information and subject access requests.
Practical experience in developing and delivering training programs, providing training and guidance about Data Protection to all levels of staff, in a variety of formats.
Skilled in interpreting complex legislation, supporting codes of practice and related documentation to assess how they affect business activities throughout the University and present them in a manner comprehensible to the target audience.
The ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, particularly the ability to communicate complex technical subjects in plain English to the staff at all levels in the University.
Able to work alone to investigate and identify practical solutions to complex information legislation and records management queries.
The ability to investigate data breach incidents.

Those with a background in Higher education will be advantageous
