What will my role look like?

Our Finance Team is expanding and a new opportunity for a Head of Group Retail Estate Finance has become available! Reporting into the Group CFO, the Head of Group Real Estate Finance will lead, develop and evolve the Group Real Estate finance function. Strategically, this will involve designing and implementing consistent internal controls within Real Estate Finance across the Group, business partnering to the Real Estate Team, leading the system migration of Fixed Assets to SAP S4 and integration of acquisitions to the Group in relation to Real Estate Finance.

What would my main responsibilities be?
  • Leading and developing the Real Estate Team
  • Designing and co-ordinating the implementation of Fixed Asset controls with Group Finance and Country finance teams including the implementation of a Group wide Fixed Asset verification process and ongoing verifications
  • Review of implementation and ongoing operation of controls in the lease management process, liaising with internal audit as required
  • Lead and co-ordinate the annual audit of Fixed Assets across Europe and Australia and support in the US where needed
  • Lead and Co-ordinate for the annual audit of leases across Europe and Australia and support in the US where needed
  • Co-ordinate the Group annual impairment review and audit thereof including the review of loss making sites
  • Ensuring consistent reporting of capex across the Group and delivery of the Group capex reporting each month
  • Key responsibility for budgeting and planning of capex spend alongside Group Treasury, FP&A and Real Estate
  • Lead and co-ordinate the integration of new acquisitions into the Group with respect to Real Estate Finance
  • Lead and co-ordinate the system migration of Fixed Assets into SAP S4 working with IT teams and country finance teams
  • Developing and implementing the Group Fixed Assets Accounting Policy
  • Ensure the principles of IFRS 16 and the Group's Lease Accounting Policy are applied consistently across the Group's lease balances, including consideration of whether a contract contains a lease, accounting for sale and leaseback transactions and any other IFRS 16 related accounting treatment that may arise from the activities of the Group
  • Business Partner to Group Real Estate team including capital spend projects and ongoing review of IFRS 16 data management
  • Work closely with country finance teams supporting their regular reporting
  • Responsible for calculation and distribution of the Group IBR rate

Candidate Requirements
  • ACA qualified (or equivalent), several years post qualification industry experience
  • Prior experience either in Real Estate Finance or as a Head of Finance
  • Experience of implementing internal controls
  • Understanding of IFRS16 accounting treatment
  • Experienced Finance Business Partner
  • Experience in communicating and reporting at an Executive level
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic, rapidly changing business environment and to get into detail where needed
  • Ability to multitask, keep teams on track and meet deadlines on a timely basis
  • Creativity, flexibility and an entrepreneurial mindset to the solution of business issues
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, negotiation, research, presentation and organization skills
  • Strong MS Office skills including Excel, Word and PowerPoint and valuable to have experience of SAP
  • Exceptional team development, leadership experience and skills
