We are offering an opportunity to be part of our fantastic new school, which aims to provide an outstanding education for every child at Turner Free School. This could be the ideal role for you if you are passionate about making a difference to the lives of children through supporting them to achieve, both academically and personally. This role is to directly support a visually impaired pupil with an EHCP, on a 1:1 basis, who is in benefit of Higher Needs Funding. This will include working with them in lessons, running interventions for them, supporting with related paperwork and co-ordinating with relevant stakeholders. Whilst this role is specifically for one pupil, where appropriate there will be opportunities to support other groups of pupils also.

To fully support this pupil we are looking to recruit one full time Leaning Support Assistant to directly support. There will also be a part time Learning Support Assistant to focus on adapting learning resources.

We are looking for Learning Support Assistants who are:
  • able to support a specific pupil, on a 1:1 basis, towards achieving their goals as part of their Educational Health Plan committed team players with energy and drive
  • able to support children with a range of special educational needs and disabilities,
  • able to deliver support, both in lesson and small groups in reading, writing and mathematics;
  • dedicated, enthusiastic, patient and caring.

We welcome applications either from those with experience in supporting learning in the classroom or who have experience in supporting children with a range of other special educational needs, or from graduates, who are looking to gain in-school experience before Teacher Training.

We are committed to our staff's continuous professional development in all areas, and will ensure that you receive high quality and effective training in order to support you in your role. However, experience with Read Write Inc. Fresh Start and First Aid would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will be expected to play a full part in Family Dining, sharing lunch with our wonderful children every day. All employees of the school are expected to contribute to the wider life of the school community and candidates should be mindful of this when applying for the position.

37 hours a week

Term Time + 2 additional weeks (to include INSET days)

One year rolling contract pending continuing Higher Needs Funding.

The Turner Free School is an academically ambitious and inclusive school for 11-18 year old pupils in the Cheriton area of Folkestone. In other words, it is a grammar-style school for everyone. As a smaller than average secondary school, all pupils are known and educated as individuals. The school has a knowledge-led curriculum, organised along the principles established by Professors Michael Young of the IOE and E.D. Hirsch of the University of Virginia, to ensure all pupils receive the knowledge they need to thrive in the modern world. In addition, to give pupils a leading edge for further education and employment, modern foreign languages are emphasised, with the aspiration that all pupils will achieve a working standard by the time that they graduate from the school.
