The Avalon Group is an award winning social care charity with a turnover of over £11m and 350 staff. We are one of the largest providers of community support and shared lives services, supporting around 800 people with a disability.
To complement the current Board of Trustees, we are looking to appoint new Trustees to help drive the charity forward and continue to build on our strong reputation with regulators and commissioners.
Trustees will be able to demonstrate a clear empathy with the aims of the charity and the sector, live or have close links with one of the areas we cover and need to be available a minimum of two days per month.
As a collegiate body to be responsible for:
- Formulating and reviewing the strategic aims of the organisation.
- To ensure that the policy and practices of the organisation are in keeping with its aims.
- To ensure that the organisation functions within the legal and financial requirements of a charitable organisation and strives to achieve best practice.
Other tasks involved (but not limited to) would be to represent the organisation in the wider community by speaking at fundraisers and networking events. You will also act as an ambassador for the charity.
While the new Trustees do not necessarily need previous non-executive experience, they will be able to demonstrate a strong track record in senior leadership positions and be willing and able to contribute to the full agenda at Avalon. To provide expertise, guidance and governance to a team that will deliver our vision for a world where disabled people are seen for who they are, having equality, choice and independence.
In addition, we are looking for Trustees with experience at a strategic level in one or more of the following areas:
- Social Housing
- Health & Social Care
- Digital Transformation
What's in it for the volunteer?
Avalon has excellent links with the communities we operate in and are recognised by CQC as providing good services in all 9 locations registered. This is an exciting period for the organisation as it progresses modernisation plans identified in our Strategic Plan 2019-2021.
You would need to be available for a minimum of two days per month. Meetings depending on your skill set can take place in or out of office hours. Quarterly meetings are currently being held remotely, future meetings may be held at our Head Office in Harrogate.
