Based in County Durham North East England, ESS Recruit's client is a highly respected global semiconductor and optoelectronics business. They are at the forefront of developing opto and III-V materials and products, supporting next generation VCSEL 3D technologies, consumer electronics, military and life science products and applications.
The parent group has made a huge investment into growing a III-V, GaaS and Indium Phosphide fab in Newton Aycliffe. They are experiencing a significant ramp both in terms of production and people, and now need make the key hire of an Equipment Engineering Manager.
Reporting into the Site Director, the Equipment Engineering Manager will co-ordinate the selection, installation and commissioning of equipment to meet manufacturing and development requirements, on-time, on budget and fit for purpose. You will act as the interface with all disciplines within the Operations Dept to ensure stable, robust, repeatable, sustainable and high yielding equipment tool set operations are achieved, monitored and maintained in-line with the needs of the customer. You will lead and develop a team of Equipment Specialists to be responsible for the support of a volume manufacturing Semiconductor Fab. Key responsibilities are likely to include:
Generation, monitoring and maintenance of department Key Performance Indicators in line with internal and external customer needs.
Project management to deliver qualification of equipment to meet development and manufacturing requirements.
Undertake appropriate activity to minimise scrap, increase yield, reduce manufacturing time and minimise manufacturing costs.
Provision of timely feedback on Engineering trials and production data to Design, Development, Process, Yield and Production departments.
Effective people management through the provision of coaching/mentoring and appropriate development planning to ensure the retention of key personnel.
Prepare and control Capital and Operating budgets to maintain engineering capability to support manufacturing.
Maintain focus on cost control for all engineering activities and proactively encourage cost reduction and lean manufacturing principles.
Own equipment risk plans & co-ordinate methodology & ongoing review process for FMEA's.
Manage equipment IT systems including the MES/Maximo/ERP interface.
You are educated to degree calibre in an engineering, manufacturing or scientific discipline. We are looking for a proven Equipment Hardware Engineering Manager, who has ideally worked in a volume semiconductor or optoelectronics manufacturing environment. We might also consider candidates from ancillary industries including fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals and other cleanroom based environments.
