We are not expecting you to have domain knowledge of radar systems and theory, or significant experience in engineering. What we are looking for are scientists and engineers with a solid technical foundation which we can build upon through training, team working, and one to one mentoring.

The Radar and Advanced Targeting line of business is uniquely positioned as one of the world's top manufacturers of radars, lasers and infra-red countermeasure systems.
The team you will be joining is an engineering hub who design and develop the processing solutions that sit at the heart of our products. Our work is primarily exploited into radar systems on advanced fighter jets.
Systems Engineers within the team span a range of activities that underpin the hardware design and software that forms part of a fighter jet radar. Our Systems Engineers span a different types of work:
Applied research: Early research looking into exploiting new technologies or concepts.
High level design: Higher level understanding of the impact of design decisions can have on performance.
Low-level design: Detailed design/redesign, prototyping and optimisation of a particular processing solution using their expertise within their technical domain.
As a Systems Engineer you will bridge the gap between the theoretically possible and what is practically implementable in a real system. We need talented scientists and engineers to take early concepts from a variety of sources and turn them into working solutions for a radar.

We are recruiting for a number of roles from a variety of backgrounds and skillsets. Based upon your skills and foundation knowledge, we will assess where your knowledge and skills would best fit and discuss options with you.
Typical work you might be involved in:
Contribute or even lead an early concept study investigating whether a new type of waveform could improve the detection of smaller targets at range;
Collaborate with radar hardware experts, design and prototype a detailed model of the radar signal's path through the system to understand observed effects when applying signal processing
Design new functionality within an existing signal processing chain for the Gripen AI radar and work within an Agile team to implement the solution in Simulink
Apply your knowledge of physics to develop a radar signal simulator used in supporting test and validation of our group's processing solutions
Using real data collected from a Typhoon radar, investigate the cause of reduced sensitivity observed within flight trials
Design and prototype Matlab radar image formation algorithms that take into account limitations/constraints of the eventual target hardware

You will have a Phd, EngD or other relevant research experience within a Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths subject.
We would be interested in hearing from you if you also have:
Experience of collaborating with others either within your research group or wider afield
A drive to continuously improve your own skills and knowledge
A methodical approach to solving large complex problems
Experience in planning, leading and overseeing technical research or development tasks
An appreciation of Systems Engineering process
Coding is central to our day to day work. You should have some experience of using a programming language to solve problems or develop models. Experience using Matlab and Simulink would be an advantage.
