Job Details

We are recruiting to expand our DevOps team of outstanding developers to help the UK government build and run great digital services for the people of the UK. You'll need strong skills in frontend web development and be ready to quickly get to work within a multi-disciplinary team of developers, designers, editors, analysts focussed on one or more products or projects.

Day-to-day you will be responsible for working with the development team to design, create and improve new and existing products, platforms and transactions across government.

The main responsibilities of the post are:
  • Building web and mobile products to serve a variety of citizens' needs.
  • Being involved in the wider web development community, identifying good practices we can adopt and sharing our experiences.
  • Sharing knowledge of tools and techniques with the wider team, both developers and non-developers.
  • Assisting to build a useful, robust automated test suite to support a Continuous Deployment environment.
  • Taking part in 2nd-line support of applications and platforms, including occasional support outside of office hours

Specialist Skills & Requirements

  • Significant experience of developing web applications using the React.js library.
  • Strong Typescript development experience or significant Javascript experience.
  • Strong styling (CSS) or similar skills.
  • A broad understanding of other front-end web development technologies.
  • Working knowledge of AWS or other cloud environments.
  • Knowledge of the use of version control systems such as Git.
  • Exposure to Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery pipelines.
  • The ability to follow development best practice.

  • Exposure to working in an Agile development including the use of workflow tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • An ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • SC clearance or the ability to acquire SC clearance.

In return:

You will be working in a challenging and quirky environment with some of the best minds in the country. Contracted for 12 months initially with a possibly to extend thereafter. You'll be challenged and pushed to succeed and will have autonomy to make changes with the Risk owner.
