We are looking for several Software Development Managers at Leonardo in Edinburgh. Leonardo is a global leader in defence electronics and designs and develops systems for situational awareness, surveillance and protection, across land, sea and air. The Radar and Advanced Targeting line of business, based in Edinburgh, is uniquely positioned as one of the world's top manufacturers of radars, lasers and infra-red countermeasure systems.

As a Software Development Manager at Leonardo, you will lead a software development team delivering to one or more of our key radar development programmes. You will clearly articulate the project position to stakeholders, lead your engineers to success, and manage the team through a transition to more agile techniques.

As a Software Development Manager:

You'll own the strategic direction of software in one or more value streams within a product family.
You'll schedule, estimate, execute and deliver software work packages, to both internal and external customers.
You'll communicate project progress to key stakeholders, including external customers.
You'll support customer and project needs through technical expertise.
You'll deliver software that satisfies requirements and meets quality standards.
You'll make sure software requirements for the project are complete, unambiguous and testable.
You'll support the team through a move from waterfall delivery to using agile techniques and practices.
You'll foster a culture of high-performance through mentoring, coaching and teaching.
You'll be supported to develop your skills, reach your goals, and become better every day.

We are looking for people who have experience and knowledge in the following areas:

Managing and developing software teams.
Full software development lifecycle.
Planning, including estimating, allocating and reviewing work.
Customer engagement and managing customer expectations.
Cost/quality trade-offs and risk management.
It is desirable, but not essential to have:
Awareness of software safety.
Broad business domain knowledge in an embedded software environment.
Experience in Aerospace, Defence or any other regulated sector such as medical or automotive.
