Job Details

The Process Engineer plays a key role in ensuring the site complies with the process industries legislative & regulatory framework. A champion of Process Safety Management, s/he is able to demonstrate competency across key areas. Examples could include:

Fully conversant with COMAH, DSEAR, IEC61511 Functional Safety, PSSR, MHSAW-1999, IPPC, & CDM regulations
Takes an active role in supporting site process safety and environmental objectives
Helps maintain site IPPC permit and drives the sustainability agenda
Conducts Occupational Health & Safety reviews & Human Factors assessments in partnership with SHE departmentThe Process Engineer is a key player in the delivery of engineering change on the site. Typically s/he will lead implementation from idea phase through to commissioning and handover, and will be at the centre of assessing and managing the risks. Examples could include:

Preparing Basis of Safety documents for new & existing processes and unit operations
Active participant of the Management of Change processes on the site
Facilitates / leads PHRs & HAZOP's, implementing recommendations where necessary
Champion inherently safer process and equipment design

The Process Engineer is responsible for the design of process equipment, its integration and function. S/he will typically lead the design of new process equipment & systems through the project life cycle, & provide expert support for operations & process optimisation. Examples include:

Development of design information - generating PFD's, P&ID's, M&E balances, equipment sizing, fluid flow & pressure drop calculations
Development of specifications for equipment, processes & automation requirements
Manage a range of capital projects through scoping, design, installation and commissioning
Provide engineering support to production and R&D for trouble shooting and new product development
Identify and implement improvements to plant facilities, processes and methods of operation
Use all available engineering principles, ideas, & concepts to maintain the highest chemical engineering standards
As appropriate, deploy continuous improvement methodologies & tools to optimise manufacturing processes

The Process Engineer is responsible for delivering elements of the site capital plan as directed by the Engineering Manager. S/he will be able to demonstrate high levels of competency in all areas of project execution. A champion of best practice methods, the process engineer ensures projects are scoped, authorised, controlled & delivered OTIF to meet business objectives. Examples of duties include:

Collaborate with site functions to develop user requirements for capital projects
Create & manage complex project plans, using optimisation & fast-tracking methods as appropriate
Implement robust procurement, tendering & cost control processes to deliver optimum value to internal customers
Control the triple constraints of time, cost & scope using established best practice methods
Deliver engineering projects on time and on budget
Manage all phases of the project life cycle from idea to handover
Manage contractor activities during construction phase from a SHE compliance, scope, & cost management perspective
Report on timelines and actions as required and ensure clear escalation of delivery risks
Ensure clear communications throughout the phases of the project, managing stakeholders to maximise outcomes for all
Management of a large portfolio of projects of varying degrees of size & complexity
Work as part of a team or individually to deliver high quality, robust, permanent solutions

Additional Preferences:

Chartered Chemical Engineer (IChemE chartered member) or working towards.
