Partnering with the global team, the network engineer is heavily involved with identifying, prioritizing, and resolving critical communication related issues that impact business operations. In addition, the engineer proactively seeks to communicate solutions to issues and preferred emerging technologies that can be used to improve the overall health of the company network.
The engineer will work with vendors and contractors to manage and develop communications services and will work with IT project teams and the network security team for delivery of new or changed IT services.
Person background requirements
University degree in engineering, computer science, or related field or equivalent.
Experience working in telecommunications and network engineering.
Ability to identify, prioritize, and solve complex voice and data related problems.
Ability to effectively prioritize and work in a fast paced and high-pressure environment.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
In-depth knowledge of the OSI model.
Experience working with current network hardware, protocols and standards, including routers, WAN accelerators, WLAN components, IP and VPN and SDWAN networks.
Experience working with firewall configuration and troubleshooting.
Experience with different network types (i.e. LAN, WAN, WLAN).
Strong technical knowledge for PC operating systems and application including MS Windows and MS Office.
Experience working with telephone PBX systems and understanding of telecommunications.
Role and responsibilities
Work with technical teams to ensure that hardware and software infrastructure is maintained with latest firmware and software requirements.
Manage basic and expedited support to resolve all networking and voice related issues.
Troubleshoot and resolve all expedited issues impacting the customers' challenges and needs.
Proactively communicate the status, plan of action(s), and resolution(s) of issues.
Monitor and report the performance of network and voice components against KPIs and take preemptive measures to minimize interruptions.
Provide support for all project activities, data, and telecommunications services
Identify opportunities and recommend solutions for improving the overall data and voice network health by assessing overall effectiveness and efficiency.
Evaluate new technologies and platforms to determine whether their applicability aligns with business needs.
Assist with negotiations for communications contracts in conjunction with the contract managers to coordinate implementation, service contracts, equipment acquisitions, and track vendor performance against contract compliance.
Support network firewalls and work with vendors for 3rd party managed devices.
