Purchasing Manager

As a result of on-going new product innovation and improvements to their supply chain, this leading, highly successful design, development and manufacturing organisation are seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to undertake a key role to develop and execute the Purchasing strategy for the company.

The Purchasing Manager's role will be varied and encompass all aspect of procurement support for a range of complex, high value, low volume mechanical products, including leadership of a team of Buyers.

You will have overall responsibility for the timely purchase and delivery of components and services to site to support the manufacturing and assembly operations.

The key driver for the role is to utilise your purchasing acumen to identify, implement and deliver a robust supply chain strategy that enables the business to meet its strategic plans. You will be focused on procurement and cost control, with the ability to drive, lead by example and also be hands-on / operational. As such you will be involved in placing purchase order, alongside utilising your proven leadership / team building ability.

In your capacity as Purchasing Manager you will utilise first class commercial acumen, coupled with your working understanding of MRP planning and scheduling too be able to help shape the future purchasing strategy and deliver purchasing KPI improvements.

Key responsibilities for Purchasing Manager will include:

Development of a robust Purchasing Strategy

Purchasing a range of high value, low volume, technically complex components

Contract negotiation

Supporting the planning, project management & sales functions with customer interaction as required. This will include reporting and negotiation requiring strong commercial ability.

NPI (New Product Introduction) - Playing a key role in supporting the NPI process, ensuring new products meet demand across sourcing, supplier selection, cost and Quality Cost Delivery (QCD) targets.

Management of team (Buyers) - Leading, developing and coaching the purchasing team

Assessing current purchasing / supply chain processes and identifying areas for improvement

Work with the planning and customer team to ensure accurate planning data within the MRP system.

Utilising your technical acumen within engineering / manufacture to liaise confidently with suppliers and support NPI projects internally.

To succeed in this varied and highly autonomous role you will need to have a proven track record in Purchasing Management within a complex mechanical manufacturing environment and broad-based mechanical commodity knowledge and :

Be educated to degree standard in a relevant discipline or able to demonstrate equivalent learned knowledge through experience.

Have experience purchasing in a low volume, high value, high variety manufacturing environment

Operational and strategic purchasing acumen and first-class negotiation skills.

Experience of leading a small team of Buyers / leadership / coaching skills.

Extensive experience working with MRP systems for supply chain demand planning
