Over the last 18 months the organisation has gone through a significant period of change as we try to reduce our expenditure and increase our income to ensure the branch is sustainable for the future. Our retail work should be one of the key elements of our income strategy but has struggled to bring in the expected levels of income. We want to make our charity shops the backbone of the charity and provide regular sustainable income, which can be relied upon as move forward.
The branch currently operates three charity shops (Acomb, York City Centre and Selby) with a small retail presence at the York Animal Home. Despite being established for many years our retail work has struggled to generate a significant surplus, with some stores failing to break-even. We need to improve our retail offering and ensure it's contributing to the work of the charity both financially and as a window into the Animal Home.
The Retail Manager will be responsible for co-ordinating the retail work of the charity, directly overseeing the charity shops, ensuring our stores are hitting their sales targets and maximising their potential. We're looking for an individual who isn't afraid to get stuck in, who can help us modernise our retail offering and deliver a consistent high-quality experience for our customers across all of our stores.
