Buxton Opera House is looking to appoint three new Trustees to help take forward the Opera House as it enters an exciting new phase of development. This is a pivotal moment for Buxton Opera House and a really exciting time to join our Board.
Our Trustees provide leadership to the charity and contribute to its overall governance and strategic direction. The day-to-day management of the organisation is provided by the executive team, headed by Chief Executive Paul Kerryson. Trustees play an integral role in decision-making to develop the organisation’s goals, and are responsible for ensuring the charity remains financially robust and continues to provide public benefit. Trustees are Non-Executive Directors and members of the Board of High Peak Theatre Trust (the name of the charity registered with the Charity Commission).
Engaged Trustees offering a range of skills and experience are vital to the success of Buxton Opera House. Our Trustees come from diverse backgrounds and are chosen for the skills and expertise they can bring to effective governance. They also have an understanding of the issues affecting the cultural sector and share a fundamental appreciation of the value of the performing and creative arts in enhancing lives, building communities and contributing to economic regeneration.
What are we looking for
We are seeking to recruit three new Trustees with specialist expertise. You do not have to have previous Board experience to apply but we would expect all potential Trustees to understand the principles of good governance, to have strong leadership skills and to have some knowledge of and affinity with the arts sector and the challenges it faces in the current climate. As a values-led organisation we are committed to building an inclusive culture that values diversity and that welcomes people from all walks of life. Our principles of inclusivity and diversity are reflected in our artistic programme, in our staff and creative teams and in the composition of our Board. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds to apply for these Trustee positions. In particular we are looking for people with expertise in one or more of the following areas: The Arts, Legal, Fundraising, Education, People Management, Marketing / Communications.
Board meetings take place five times per year and normally last for two hours. There is also one full strategy away day each year and Trustees normally join one of the three main Board sub-committees
