Job Details

Women's Work Derbyshire is looking for new trustees with backgrounds in marketing, HR and safeguarding to join their committed board.

Women's Work is a National Award Winning Charity, founded in 2003. We work with women with multi-faceted needs who may feel unable to access statutory services or are affected by the stigma of their circumstances, for example offenders and those being exploited through prostitution.

We provide a range of educational workshops, confidence courses, life- skills, street outreach, food parcels, one to one support, mentoring, chaperone service, health interventions, counselling, drop-ins, coffee morning, trips & outings, parenting support, domestic abuse programme, legal advice and any other intervention we can, to support women experiencing emotional, social, addiction and mental health issues.

Role summary

Our board of trustees works together to ensure Women’s Work Derbyshire is sustainable and accountable by exercising good governance and following all necessary policies and procedures. In addition to your statutory duties, each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.

What are we looking for

We are looking for individuals with a background in Marketing, HR and Safeguarding as well as the following attributes:

  • A commitment to Women's Work Derbyshire and its objectives
  • Good, independent judgement
  • Strategic vision
  • A willingness to bring constructive challenge
  • An understanding of legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
  • A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to their duties as a Trustee
  • An ability to work effectively as a member of a team
  • An ability to think creatively

As an organisation we are particularly keen to ensure that our trustees are fully representative of the community in which we work and at the current time we would warmly welcome applications from people with a diverse range of backgrounds, ethnicity, gender and age. We offer induction and other training opportunities, so past experience as a trustee is not necessary.

Board meetings take place quarterly and also keep in touch by e-mail.

How to apply

Please write a short letter outlining: why you are interested in joining our board, your relevant skills and experience (see Who we are looking for) and how you think you could apply your skills and experience to strengthen our board. Please also attach a CV or similar (LinkedIn profile, portfolio etc).

Reach is the leading skills-based volunteering charity in the UK. We are the single biggest source of trustees for the voluntary sector in the UK. Connecting people, skills and good causes is our mission and our passion.

What we do

We help charities and other non-profits find the skills they need to thrive. Every year hundreds of charities recruit volunteers through our service. These volunteers share their skills as trustees, advisors or mentors, carrying out short term projects or ongoing operational roles.

Our goal is to create a step change in the quality, range and scale of skills-based volunteering and trusteeship in the UK. We are proud of our growing impact.

Why we do it

Charities can boost their capacity, increase their effectiveness and innovate / find new ways of doing things when volunteers donate their professional skills. Trustees play a crucial role in leading charities and overseeing their work. When the trustee board of a charity has a good mix of skills and professional experience, it can govern more effectively.

By supporting charities to recruit volunteers and trustees with valuable skills, we help charities increase their capacity and strengthen their governance.

How we do it

Our online community inspires people to use their skills for social good. We help organisations to make the most of those skills, to think through their needs and to attract the right person. We believe that communication is important in recruiting trustees and volunteers, so our service encourages dialogue between organisations and individuals. Our service is free to volunteers and to most charities. Find out more about when we charge.
