Background to Change Please

Change Please is an award-winning social enterprise, operating in the homelessness sector.

We have a simple a 'jobs-first' approach to ending homelessness. A sustainable and permanent job provides sustainable income, self-reliance and dependence, access to services, improved confidence and wellbeing and the foundation from which people experiencing homelessness can rebuild their lives.

We launched four years ago and have grown rapidly to a £2m turnover company in the UK with 3 business divisions - retail, wholesale and online. We have recently set up subsidiaries in France, US and Australia. We need an experienced accountant who can help us manage the rapid growth through robust financial controls and detailed management reporting.

Background to the role

Reporting to the Finance Director, this is a vital role to support our growth at Change Please. It is a new role and we need an enthusiastic manager to manage company accounting practices, create strong financial processes, liaise with team members, manage the finance team and prepare management reporting.

This is an opportunity to make a real difference to the growth of the company and to people's lives. Working as part of a small team, you will take the lead on preparation of the financial results.

On a day-to-day basis, the role will be varied and includes liaising with the retail team, the wholesale team, senior management and third-party vendors and customers.

We want someone who has strong financial experience and is willing to work at a detailed level as well as be involved with all aspects of finance and controls in the business.

The role will suit someone who is a self-starter, who can juggle different priorities, and has a passion for supporting people out of homelessness.

Oversees daily financial activities of finance team members (reviewing sales ledger and purchase ledger postings)
Weekly sales reconciliation for Retail, online and Wholesale
Perform monthly, quarterly and annual accounting activities including reconciliations of bank (EUR and GBP) and stock accounts
Implement and monitor the month, quarter and year-end closeout accounting schedules for prepayments and accruals
Preparation of month end journals
Supporting creation of monthly financial reports, cash-flow, budgets and forecasting
Meets with managers to review budgets and improve existing financial processes
Responsibility for monthly and weekly payroll processing, RTI submission and pension filing.
Preparation of VAT returns and other quarterly and monthly tax returns, such as PAYE and P11Ds

Skills and Qualifications

Qualified Accountant with Two or More Years PQE

Business Tax Experience, including VAT Preparation and Filing

Bookkeeping and Payroll Experience, experience of Xero helpful but not essential.

Strong Computer and Spreadsheet Skills

Team Management Skills and Strong Communication Skills
